Im going to Dublin, Edinburgh and London with my brother (6 foot tall dude).
But what Im scared about is sleeping in a dorm style hostel and having creepy tourists stare at at me sleeping. Or anything! It sounds concieted but its not. Im just scared of being creeped out while I sleep in a room with peope I dont even know. Does this happen?

There are female only dorms in most hostels, I have traveled in hostels for years, you are going to have a great time, try to ignore the negative stuff you are hearing. Check out Twizi.com's FAQ, it touches on your concerns.
Happy Travels!

Hiya.
I'm a young women myself (25) and I've slept in loads of dorms from London to Edinburgh.
Dont worry, most folks are incredibly nice, and if you really have a problem with big dorms, most hostels will have 4 or 6 bed dorms for only £5 or £10 more. Some even have double rooms (2beds) for £30 pounds, so it's worth it if you dont like creepy room mates.

Don't they gender-segregate in the hostels?!

You should be fine...wear conservative clothes if you're worried about getting stared at for your loveliness. It's gotta be easier traveling in those places you named as a pretty thing than in Southern Europe where you'll be chased down the streets with wolf calls, lol! Though for the most part, if you're walking with your tall bro even there, the assumption will be that you're his and should not be messed with. Maybe the same for the hostels? Just make it clear you're not traveling alone, if you start getting creeped out.
Bring some benadryl along...useful if you can't sleep *and* if you have an allergic reaction to something!
have fun on your trip!

Then don't......

If you are uncomfortable, you should reconsider your living arrangements. But be aware, you will be just one of the attractive young women in the hostel, and also be one of the creepy tourists.

Some hostels are like hostels with doors, while some are like dorms with bunk beds where multiple people sleep. There isn't much privacy when this happens. I'd seriously doubt anyone will be particularly interested in staring at you though.

If you are uncomfortable with this, then it is not the right choice for you.

Gender segregated dorms aren't that popular, because most people aren't that bothered, but many hostels do have them. Just use lonely planet/web/tourist info to find one that does. Or try and get over your fears, lots of people stay in hostels and have no problems, and you can make friends with lots of nice people.

the second half of your question is a valid concern. i would be a little nervous too about a bunch of strangers around while i was trying to sleep..however, you planned out your trip this way instead of coming up with the extra money to get a room for yourself in a regular hotel...so i wish you luck, I'm sure it will be ok...i hope you and your brother have a great time while you are there

Don't worry... you won't be the only attractive person, there will be lots. It's reasonably safe in those places. You're actually more likely to have your stuff stolen than anything else... just make sure that you keep your valuables on you at all times. And let your brother know where you'll be, if you plan on spending any time by yourself. :-)

Stop being cheap and pay for better hotels. Is money worth your safety.
