Lisa K forgot that there are also six counties in Northern Ireland. However the UK is a unitary state not a federal one like the US, so the counties, and even the devolved bodies for Wales, Scotland and N Ireland are less powerful than US state governments.

The UK does not have states. The UK is comprised of 4 countries - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each of those countries have their own system of subdividing the country for the purpose of government

For example, England has 82 counties

However you should not consider a county in England equivalent to a state in the US. England has a more centralized form of government. For example, a country cannot decided whether to have the death penalty or not.

They don't have states, however it is made up of the countries of England, Scotland and Wales, plus Northern Ireland.

No states hon, we have county's, county of North Yorkshire, Hertfordshire, Durham, the list goes on.

the uk hasent any states my little american. only your country has those... try asking how many countrys and territorys the uk has then see how far that gets you
