Hi there,
I read in a different website that tourists should always pack umbrellas while visiting Geneva...
Does it rain in Geneva in 'February'??
Thanks.

is it possible to live in Switzerland without becoming a Swiss citizen - a sort of Special Resident or Retiree? Would you know the details, requirements & websites related to this? Thanks!!

Sometime in Februarury, we should be arriving in Geneva around 16:00 hrs (4 PM). We want to spend 3-4 days in Lucerne. Is it advisable to catch a train from the airport and head to Lucerne on the same night? How safe is it to arrive in Lucerne around 20.00 or 21.00 Hrs? Because I believe it gets dark early in the winters.

OR should we stay overnight in Geneva and head out early morning next day? If yes, please suggest some budget hotel ( which I know is difficult :-))

I will arrive in Luzerne on the 29th this month for 2 days, 2 nights. Could somebody help me with my initiary?

I have a railpass, so it entitles me to free ride on steamer/boat on the lake or reduced price to either of the alps. Which do you think is a must? We could only afford either one for the time/budget that we have.

On the 2nd day, we plan to visit the firstly the glacier museum, then the lion monument, then we plan to spend the rest of the afternoon/evening walking through the old city.

We would also appreciate any tips/comments on good places to eat (preferably cheap), and anything else we must not miss in Luzerne.

Thank you so much for your help! and have a belated Happy New Year!

Hi All,

My husband and myself might come to Geneva in Feb for some business. We plan to stay in Lucerne for 3-4 days and see the alps (Pliatus) and go around the city and maybe visit Interlaken.

BUT, Can someone give a realistic picture of weather in February?? I read in another thread that Feb is 'bleak, unbearable and worst time of the year'!! :-((

We are not into skiiing. But we surely would love to generally roll and play in the snow :-)) and of course take a leisurely walk around the city and do some cruises.

We can understand the mountains to be freezing cold..but what about the city..will there be too much snow? Is it worthwhile in Feb?? Please help!!

Thanks so much.

We plan to stay in Lucerne for 2 days. Between Titlis and Pilatus, which is worth visiting in 'February'? We are not into winter sports but would love to see the scenery and generally play in the snow. And we plan to spend one day in the Lucerne city. Thanks.

I'll be there next month. Can I wear jeans and sneakers in the bars and clubs or should I bring nicer clothes.

So in the midst of my europe tour, I have 2 days in Switzerland which I really could not decide on. Where would I be able to catch a glimpse of the alps at its best? Luzerne or Interlaken, and due to a rather tight budget, most likely we will not be taking a train to the jungfrauch or any other peaks, or ski, or paraglide. We'll just take a lazy stroll in the city, enjoy ourselves a little. Where to do this best? Luzerne? or Interlaken?

---> I know some people are going to add lame comments to this question, don't even bother to waste yours and my time!

I'm planning a trip to Switzerland and I was wondering what towns/cities have the most beautiful, mountainous views. I want to be blown away by my natural surroundings. Thanks!

After some tips/suggestions from fellow Yahoo answer-ers, I have decided to make some changes to my plans. I will now be spending a full day in Luzerne, after a night, take a train to Interlaken, then the next morning, a train to Montreux, where I will be till afternoon, then arrive in Geneva to visit the lake, UN quarters and Red Crescent museum, before a night train to Rome. So I pretty much have all my plans listed out, except the Interlaken part. What is there to do and see in Interlaken? Could we hike up the hills on foot in February? What activities could you suggest? Accomodations? Just we're on a rather limited budget.

I know, people have mentioned it and I have read about it, the best would probably be Jungfrau, Zermatt and Matterhorn, but the fact is that they are rather far from the route I am taking and it would be rather inconvenient for me. So this is my travel plans, could somebody tell me where can I photograph the best possible (and most memorable) picture of the Swiss Alps?

1st day train from basel to Geneva, arriving in Geneva 9am, spend a whole day in Geneva

2nd day early morning train to Montreux, where I will be visiting Cheatteau de Chillion, then afternoon train to Interlaken, where I will be for 4-5 hours. Then late evening train to Luzerne where I will spend a night

3rd day Whole day spent in Luzerne (The city area only)

Amongst these places, where can I catch the best sight of the alps? in the city, for example, or on train journey?

Was there for honeymoon and again in 2000.
Interlaken will be our base for 5/7 days.
Hv been to Pilatus,Titlis, Schiltorn, Jungfrau.
Hv covered Bern, Montreux, Geneva, Zermatt, Lucerne,Zurich.
Will be getting the SwissPass. Should we repeat or are there other worthy places to venture? Worthy , as in , as gd as the famous places named. On both occasion, we only bought chocolates and small tokens. Are there any other good buys? Heard abt "swiss robia"? Any idea where we can find it?
Lastly, please also post where we can find muslim food.
We greatly appreciate your help. Thanks!

I plan to take the earliest boat across Lake Geneva (having spend the previous night in Geneva), to Montreux, to visit the Cheateau de Chillion. Could anybody suggest where can I find the timetables and duration of the trip? I will buy a eurailpass so the ferry trip is supposedly free of charged.
If possible, has anybody taken the ferry ride before? Could you describe it please? I imagine this picturesque scene in my mind over and over again. Could we catch sight of the Alps on the lake?
