Hi All,

My husband and myself might come to Geneva in Feb for some business. We plan to stay in Lucerne for 3-4 days and see the alps (Pliatus) and go around the city and maybe visit Interlaken.

BUT, Can someone give a realistic picture of weather in February?? I read in another thread that Feb is 'bleak, unbearable and worst time of the year'!! :-((

We are not into skiiing. But we surely would love to generally roll and play in the snow :-)) and of course take a leisurely walk around the city and do some cruises.

We can understand the mountains to be freezing cold..but what about the city..will there be too much snow? Is it worthwhile in Feb?? Please help!!

Thanks so much.

Luzern in February - I can think of only one thing FASNACHT! It's the Swiss version of Mardi Gras and lasts for one week prior to Ash Wednesday. This quiet picturesque little town becomes party central! If you are into that sort of thing, it should NOT be missed but the city becomes loud, crowded and fairly intoxicated. It can be hard to find a table at a restaurant and some shops close for the duration.

Well what can one say? You probably need to go as its a business trip, if you can't change the dates take a nice hotel at least, so if the weather is unbearable you have somewhere nice to stay. February is the worst month usually in Europe, but I have been to Europe in February and I was lucky at least once :) No rain, I dressed warm and went for a walk, the truth is that every hour or less I went into a coffee shop and had hot tea to un-freeze. So, my advice is to postpone the trip, but if impossible pamper yourself with a nice hotel and wish for the best.

Well I can't give you a weather-forecast but it might be pretty cold even in Luzern. It's a lovely city to stroll around but cruising on the lake is not foreseen in wintertime. If you want to play in the snow you still have to go up in the mountains.

I just spoke with a friend in Zurich yesterday and the weather this year has been VERY unseasonably warm. This would be an ideal year to go this time of year. I have heard that they have had very little snow.

If I were you, I would go. It's a fabulous city with lots of things to do and see.
