Just trying to find out what to expect. My ex-wife is going to be stationed somewhere in Germany for 3 years (don't know where yet) and has asked me to remarry her and go with. We have 2 children. I know it will be fun, see the sights, get a taste of Europe, etc., but what I need to try and find out is what can I do? It would be great for about a month, I know, but then after that? Everywhere I've seen is people saying "you'll have so much fun shopping and traveling..." but, being that she's just coming out of AIT I don't expect she'll be making THAT much and it kinda looks like the exchange rate sucks. Could I work or just be resided to being Mr. Mom, which would be great, but realistic? Anything that could be offered would be fantastic, thanks.

I am an American citizen, and want to go to Germany for an exchange program, and will have trouble affording it, so it would be cool if I could work there in the meantime. Is that allowed?

Does anyone know where I can purchase replacement "euro" plugs? My local electronics store recently discontinued them and nobody else in town seems to sell them. Of course, any source will need to accept mail order, internet, or telephone orders.

Details: This is the small two-prong ungrounded male AC power plug connector used in low-power consumer electronics throughout Europe. In Germany, these are often called "Schuko" plugs.

Notice I want the plug itself, not an adapter or replacement power cord. I intend to snip off the existing plug from a cord (attached to items purchased in other countries, for example) and replace it with this plug in a semi-permanent installation. The type of electrical connection is unimportant (crimp, solder, or screw).

Note: If you sell this or can answer after this question is closed, please feel free to contact me directly by clicking on my name above and then selecting the "email..." link on my profile page.

Hi,
Here in the UK we have these discount books (Spree books) and I wondered if anything similar existed in Germany, especially for the city of Dusseldorf? Spree books are filled with discount vouchers for restaurants, cinemas, shops, etc. Only serious answers please.

My wife wants to take our 3 kids aged 9, 6, 5 to Germany (north of Hamburg). Are there enough kid friendly things to do in that area or would we have to travel a great deal (great deal meaning over 3 hours). I'm not sure what to do since I do not enough about the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
