In Germany, a great place is Heidleberg, fun for 18-25 years. I also would suggest Baden-Baden for anyone wanting to just relax..
Italy, I would suggest Firenze, (Florence) as it's not as touristy as Rome or Venice.. I found it a little cheaper too cause it's not posh and a place you can find almost anything.
Swisse, Def try the cog rail and a boat ride on lake Luzerne. Geneva is the biggest party city in Switzerland.

Christmas Eve will be a very quiet time in NYC. Everyone will be spending time at home with their families or maybe dinner out at a local restaurant. For 20 something people, it is a popular night to go clubbing before they have to spend the next day with their families. The Rockefeller tree will be lit and I assume you could go ice skating but check the schedule for that evening. A lot of stores and other establishments will be closing early. You could walk up 5th Ave between 50th St. and 59th St to window shop but the stores themselves will be closed. Some of the big hotels might have some type of entertainment for guests staying there (piano bar, etc). There will be plenty of people in Times Square walking around so that is where the action will be, if you want to call it that. Check the schedule of the Broadway shows to see if they are performing on Christmas Eve. The observation deck of the Empire State Building might be open. There might be people doing some Caroling at certain spots around but it will be pot luck to find them. You could walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. All the subways will be running. You could take a horse-drawn carriage ride in and around Central Park. You could walk into the Marriott Marquis Hotel or the Plaza Hotel and walk around. Enjoy

I wouldn't go to Swiss. I'd rather go to Germany than Italy. Try visiting Berlin and/or Frankfurt in Germany. hope this helps.

I am not sure about Italy or Switzerland, but one of the best cities in Germany is Nuremberg. World famous for their Christkindlmarkt.

Salzburg is nice- but its in Austria (anyway its picturesque but not a party city).
I celebrated new years 2000 in Munich- that was fun!
Youre always safe if you stick with major cities like Berlin, Hamburg or Rome (Just dont go to Switzerland for partying-yawn)
