My favorite place in the Philippines (and in the world) is Batanes. I could go on all day talking about it, and how I enjoyed the ride on the falowa to the next island. And how amazed I was with the Honesty coffee shop. I tell my friends "wala kang karapatan mamatay (you should not die) unless you have been there".

If you have been there, what places did you visit? Would you be back there?

Look at a sampling of signs seen all over the place.

American tourists would surely chuckle at these - ".....spotted a bakery named "Bread Pitt," a Makati fast-food place selling maruya (banana fritters) called "Maruya Carey," a water-engineering firm called "Christopher Plumbing," a boutique called "The Way We Wear," a video rental shop called "Leon King Video Rental," a restaurant in the Cainta district of Rizal called "Caintacky Fried Chicken," a local burger restaurant called "Mang Donald's," a doughnut shop called "MacDonuts," a shop selling lumpia (meat parcels) in Makati called "Wrap and Roll," and two butchers called "Meating Place" and "Meatropolis."

Tourists from Europe may be intrigued to discover shops called "Holland Hopia" and "Poland Hopia." Both sell a type of Chinese pastry called hopia. What's the story? The names are explained thus: Holland Hopia is the domain of a man named Ho and Poland Hopia is run by a man named Po."

the government of cory aquino, although weak, was the most honest and full of idealism. it was tobacco who wreak havoc and instituted corruption (amari land scam, centennial expo,...) to our government. erap vulgarized it and smole perpetuated it. i believe that it would be the senate who could clean up the mess we are into right now. pork barrels(whatever name it has evolved into)should be eliminated. political dynasty should be addressed. comelec should be reformed. honor and prestige and accountability to government service. and so on.

Why There Couldn't be A Fil-Am US President
10. The White House is not big enough for in-laws and extended relatives.
9. There are not enough parking spaces at the White House for 2 Honda Civics, 2 Toyota Land Cruisers, 3 Toyota Corollas, a Mercedes Benz, a BMW (Big Mean Wife), and an MPV (My Pinoy Van).
8. Dignitaries generally are intimidated by eating with their fingers at state dinners.
7. There are too many dining rooms in the White House - Where will they put the picture of the Last Supper?
6. The White House walls are not big enough to hold a pair of giant wooden spoon and fork.
5. Secret Service staff won't respond to "Pssst...hoy!"
4. Secret Service staff will not be comfortable driving the presidential car with a Holy Rosary hanging on the rear view mirror, or the statue of the Santo Nino on the dashboard.
3. No budget allocation to purchase a karaoke machine for every room in the White House.
2. State dinners do not allow "Take Home".
1. Air Force One does not allow overweight Balikbayan Boxes!

Is it one of your favorite filipino dishes?

In the American culture a man that marries a woman with young children will raise them as his own and in later years treat their children as his grandchildren. We typically dont make a distinction between "step" and "blood" in terms of children. My brother married a filipina from the Visayan region and she wants him to stop his contact with his grandson from a previous marriage because they are not related by blood. My brother has not been receptive to this request at all. Can someone tell me about the filipino culture with regards to this issue and do you think his new wife is incorrect in her interpretation. He thinks its an issue with her and not the culture.
