the government of cory aquino, although weak, was the most honest and full of idealism. it was tobacco who wreak havoc and instituted corruption (amari land scam, centennial expo,...) to our government. erap vulgarized it and smole perpetuated it. i believe that it would be the senate who could clean up the mess we are into right now. pork barrels(whatever name it has evolved into)should be eliminated. political dynasty should be addressed. comelec should be reformed. honor and prestige and accountability to government service. and so on.

I don't think so. Filipinos on general has already called upon the spirit of EDSA a lot of times that the real spirit is no longer there. EDSA will always be EDSA. Dos, Tres, Kuatro and so on will always pale in comparison.

As my professor has discussed with us, change in our government will not be possible in another hundred years because of the political vicious cycle. We graduate with our ideals and eventually get caught up with the cycle.

Personally I think the only a steady - albeit insignificant - desire for change and implementation of small positive changes can change it for the better in the future. Or if we are blessed later on by a leader who has great patriotic sense, selfless, intellectually endowed and firm with his own decisions. ... and won't take crap from anyone.

I agree with Buttgirl, in that the spirit of EDSA was called upon during the first EDSA revolution, and that the succeeding ones will always pale in comparison. And Black Hat, I also agree that the vulgar and sadly, widespread political dynasty in the Philippines is one of the greatest causes of the problems we have with our political system.

The first EDSA revolution will always be *the* most significant EDSA revolution. It will always be known as the first time that the people really stood up against the oppression and fought for it through sheer will and presence of heart and spirit. All the next ones will just be hopeful immitations, in that they are only thrown because the people hope that such a revolt will lead them out of the depression the way the original EDSA did.

Perhaps the only way for the people to rise from the political problems this time will be for us to find a *true* leader, one who is selfless and authentic in a need to serve the nation. I just hope that the "spirit" of EDSA will be there to help our countrymen realize who that person will be, and elect him if he ever comes.

After EDSA 3, I doubt it. But, the spirit of patriotism is still burning in each and every Filipino and this is the flame that will light up other forms of positive action to achieve a decent, if not a better government.

no, i don't think Edsa 1 spirit will ever be equaled.
People came to that rally purely to fight against a corrupt and abusive government.
Edsa 2, people came out of plain curiosity.
Edsa 3, people came to partake the "goodies" that Erap family were giving out.

I said this several times before here in YAP:

Traditional Politicians or TraPos or Political Dynasty.

Look at the Senate, Congress and Local Government level, how many relatives are present, for how many years did the grandfather, father, son, sister, uncles pass the key of the province, city, senate, congress.

At the Senate we got this:
- Cayetano's Brother and Sister tandem
- Estrada's Mother and Son tandem (before)

Provincial Level:
- Husband - Congressman, Wife - Mayor, Son - SK Leader
- Father, Mother, Husband, Wife - Pass it on terms as Congress, Governor and Mayors
- etc. tandem

This should be STOPPED and the only way is a reform to our COMELEC, ELECTION RULES and REGULATIONS.

Look, in a Private Company, a husband & wife or brother & sister, relatives & relatives can't even work in ONE COMPANY, because of secrecy, financial, etc. reasons. HOW MUCH MORE WITH THE Senate and Congress which deal with our LAWS and BILLS.

hi, an extremely thrilling theory. without words of thank you, encouragement, help, contract, it may be an empty existence and slowly the flames of wish, optimism and positivity could die. there is probable no longer a chum, enjoyed-one or associate who hasn't in a single way or yet another rekindled the spark, the wish, the religion that's often mandatory to proceed. those around us save the flame burning marvelous and that's to us too, to do the comparable for others. an straight forward 'thank you' ' I rejoice with that', 'you're doing nicely' could make certainly one of those distinction to somebody's day. thank you for the large question. I think people are tired of the promises that they become apathetic. It will take a monumental oppression before the spirit of Edsa can be rekindled. Tsk tsk tsk..this is sad realization indeed..even our Independence Day, it has lost its spirit.
