Anyone who lives in Japan (teacher, student or otherwise) have any thoughts on the programs? I've read that the general trend of teaching English to Japanese has become less important. Ie, parents only send their kids if they have the money and to boast that the kids are learning English, the teachers who are hired are often hired for their looks (blond and blue eyed) and have a terrible work ethic.

Anyone care to share any thoughts? It seems for the teacher side of it, it's what you make of it--your experience can be terrible or it can be wonderful, so long as you keep a realistic expectation and go with an open mind.

I'm planning a trip to Tokyo and am wondering if it's worthwhile to spend the money on an upper class hotel like hotel New Otani or should I go with a 3 star hotel like Dai - Ichi Annex.

Thank you!

Has anyone done this route? It looks absolutely beautiful. I've read that it takes about 6 hours?
Is it strenuous?
Would children be able to do it?
And finally what is the estimated cost and was it worth it?
REAL ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE

My partner is going to Japan on a snow boarding holiday and has accomodation in a sort of bed and breakfast type place. I thought he should take a photo book about our country (New Zealand) to give the family that run it as a thankyou gift. Do you think this would be appropriate?

I am going to Japan this summer and i am not a huge seafood eater. I do like meats and vegetables and fruits and rice, but i am afraid that i will accidentally try a seafood option that will make me gag (i have a sensitive gag reflex) and i do not want to offend my hostess or chef. I have asked a similar question (if i go to japan, can i only eat rice?) but learned that not everything contains seafood and that they do have really good recipes. So, im re-wording my question. (Sorry if i offended anyone on my last question) But if you have any specific suggestions, list the ingredients to get me interested. =]

Im a very picky eater, and not a big fan of seafood. So, im having a lot of trouble deciding on if i can go and just eat rice or other simple foods. Anyone know if that is bad etiquette?

Hi... My grandfather was japanese, and my grandmother's parents were also japanese. For some odd coincidence, both families moved to Mexico and got married there. My mother resigned the japanese nationality when she turned 18, accepting the mexican nationality. She told me when I was younger something about us not being "registered", and last week I was talking with some friends that recommended me to do some research. I have researched some but can't quite get concrete answers... i keep getting things like "Koseki Tohon", that I am guessing now its the registry?? So question is...do i have to be "registered" there? or can i register now? can my mom do it? can my grandmother?? even if i could, must i live in japan to take the nationality?? (i would like to have both nationalities because I identify with both, not necesarilly to live there, and i also have lots of friends in mexico with the japanese nationality)

ANY help would be really appreciated... thank you

Kiyoshi

I would very much like to purchase specific issues, but websites in the USA/Europe don't seem to cater too well for those wanting to order specific editions/back-numbers, so I was hoping to find a Japanese website(or highstreet shop that has a website) that does handle this service. I would then (hopefully) be able to email them about sending it abroad (to the UK).
Thank you in advance.

My girfriend and I are going in May. We're in our early 30s, looking for a cool area, good nightlife, atmosphere, not too expensive. Is this area the real deal?

Specifically the Tokugawa period, but if there are really good ones anyone can recommend, that'd be fine as well.
