Sushi is not raw fish. Sushi ingrediants may include raw fish, but many do not. Sushi can have cooked seafood, marinated seafood, and vegetables. There is vegetarian sushi that has no meat at all.
Sashimi is raw fish. Although it may sound disgusting to you, the Japanese do not just scale fish and eat it. They clean the meat and they cultivate the fish under very strict guidelines, so that you are served fish that is safe to eat. Although I prefer cooked fish, I think the raw fish tastes pretty much the same as cooked fish! It is still the same fish after all!

Why is eating raw fish uncivilized?? On what basis??
It is EXTREMELY UNFAIR to say that the Japanese are barbaric. Don't knock it till you've tried it. And even then, to the people who have and don't like it, ONE MAN'S MEAT IS ANOTHER MAN'S POISON.
Do you even know what is in meat patties used in burgers?? I'll tell you, innards of whatever they're killing. The next time you bite into a burger anywhere, you're eating the intestines, the stomach, the colon and whatever other part that is not sold individually, eg. the liver and the kidneys. Still think others are uncivilized and barbaric??
Japan is one of the country with the longest life expectancy with actual people to show for it. Unlike the US and many other Western countries, they have much smaller percentage of their population being overweight.
So maybe before you criticise another peron's cuture, think about your own. Ethnocentric fool!!

Traditional sushi is usually made up out of raw fish, but because this doesn't appeal to westerners, they replaced much of the raw fish with other thins like eggs, and crab. Raw fish is quite healty for you, it's rich in Omega-3.

I think any kind of fish is disgusting.
Should I just look at people eating any fish(fried, raw, etc.) to be barbaric just because I hate fish?

I used to think that...now, I find it a terrible waste to cook ahi. I live in Hawaii, and have learned that there is nothing wrong with properly seasoned raw bloody tuna, and a beer.
It don't get better YO
BURP, by the handful...and the 6-pack

it delicious, raw or not, it tasty.ãi like japanese food's tast.
i don't think eat it raw is considering an uncivilized.ã
but some time the way they kill or eat some seafood stop me from order or eating it.
some time, some restaurant is kinda using uncivilized way of killing. (whatever you want to call) yes, after all it will die for us to eat, but a little more humane would be nicer.
i have seen an eel got kill by one shot knife stick on it head, then another long knife slided pass-through its body "alive"! after it split to haft, the 2 parts still moving.
shrimp and lobster was cut and open its hard shell then soysauce its flesh and eaten alive.
alive fish, its eyes was still moving but its body was cut, ready to eat.
the same with squid. i saw this one on TV, the reporter (a girl, cute one)
she ate the squid's head, and she said it is moving.. moving in my mouse, Oishiiiiiii and chew it with no-mercy. then every one around her look at her like... , they really want some of those alive squid's head too!
(ok, that was enough for me. changed channel, i think it was a kind of sick.)
man...i can not order those animal see it moving on my dish and eat it alive like that.
