Japan has one of the lowest criminal rates in the world, and the people are generally law abiding. Do foreigners that come from the third world countries that lack the concept of law abidance cause a higher crime rate in japan? Or is this just a myth?

Firstly I would like to state that this question is in no way racially motivated even though I may come across as ignorant, that said.. I have just come back from a week long vacation in Hawaii on the Island of Oahu, the tourist population consisted of mostly American and Japanese vacationers split about 50/50. I am neither American or Japanese and so I took part in some people watching on this trip. There is one thing that I noticed more than anything else unlike the Americans who went about their day getting red sun bathing, shopping and eating with a blank look upon their faces the Japanese visitors in comparison almost always seemed to be laughing and giggling about something. Every where I went the Japanese boys and girls, ladies and men were laughing about 90% of the time. Laughing when swimming, when walking on the street, when crossing the road, when shopping. My question is what is so funny? What are you laughing about? No offence is meant by my question, thank you.

Hello there

I will be in Kyoto for about 8 nights. How much is there to do in the late evening? I'm considering a ryokan that has an 11 pm curfew and don't want to miss out on anything cultural. I don't mind skipping the bar scene, but I would hate to miss a late no performance or a geisha walk or something of this nature.

Any thoughts?

I am visiting Tokyo in a few months and would be hoping to have a few drinks during my stay there. However I am not yet 20 so I would like to know how strict they are on ID.
I have heard that they dont tend to ID foreigners and I was wondering how true that may be.

Thanks in advance for your help. : )

Thank you everyone for your thoughts.
I have narrowed my search down to three different places.
1) Ryokan Kohro (which is more expensive about 20500 yen for 3 people, but seems more centrally located and while it looks more like a hotel appears to have nice baths)
2) Matsuba-ya Inn - which has a better price only 15300 yen for three people and looks quite nice but I think there is an 11pm curfew which I don't like and finally 3) Aoi-so Inn. This seems nice as well and is only 15500 yen for three people and has a coin laundry and no curfew but you have to pay for everything seperatly for example 100 yen for 10 min of kitchen use or 100 yen for 15 min of shower.

Out of these options does anyone have any opionions or advise? There will be ten of us staying (6 adults and 4 children).

How likely is it that there will be things to do after 11 pm? Should I worry about the curfew?

Some women lacking sexual experience they went to a unique Japanese clinic that provides male "sex volunteers" to sleep with women whose deflowering, by modern social standards, is long overdue. And where they meet the volunteer sex corps, a secret group of men who teach women the erotic arts.

After studying Japanese in Japan to fluency, I would like to study Economics at a Japanese university. How hard are Japanese universities to get into compared to UK universities? Are there universities where you can get in as long as you can pay (they don't care if you did poorly at school)?

I just saw the film and enjoyed it, but had a few questions and reservations (e.g., only the most American-influenced Japanese soldiers seemed capable of mercy or compassion).

I'd like to know how Japanese film critics have received the film. I know it's playing in Shibuya, for example, and was a box office hit in its first weekend, but can't find any reviews online.

I am especially interested in finding professionally published film reviews on the film, available online, from Japanese media, i.e. newspapers, magazines, TV broadcasts.

I'm posting this question here instead of under "film" in hopes of reaching more people who are in Japan, or who have more access than I do to Japanese media sources.
