Lots of good info already!
♡What part of Japan? There are so many!
My nieces are about your age and I always take them to Shibuya, Harajuku, Odaiba....
They like to go to 109 in Shibuya and and get the latest fashions:

*Here's the shop list, to the left, take a look for yourself and see if any of the shops have styles you like:

and 'cute' goods as souvenirs for their friends.
Take a walk along Omotesando, you'll find many, many great shops!
For souvenirs I also take them to the Oriental Bazaar.

Lots to choose from!
You don't mention where in Japan you'll be but you may want to try:
Decks in Odaiba

Diamond City

Don't forget about all the outlet malls here too!
Hope this helps and enjoy shopping!♡

If you are visiting Tokyo, ask your hosts to take you to Harajuku and Shibuya. They probably will because Meiji Shrine is in Harajuku.
You will probably find most of the "Japanese" souveniers at Oriental Bazzar in the Harajauku area. Whenever we have guests visit us we take them to Oriental Bazzar and they usually find all of the things that people back home in the USA are expecting. If you want to see what the young kids are wearing you can visit the Shibuya area and see what all the young Japanese girls are wearing these days.

Go to Harajuku on a Sunday to check out the scene. On Saturday and Saturday only Bathing Ape stores are open. Also go the the Venus mall-no guys allowed without a female escort.

Well, there is UniQlo which is cheap and mod. There is also the Muji store, which has lots of fun stuff, and household goods. If you are looking for souvenirs check out the 100yen stores. There are so many good things there like dishes, chopsticks, bowls, snacks, whatever. Both UniQlo and Muji are chain stores and quite popular so they should be easy to find.

It really depends on what you want to buy. If you are looking for electronics, the Akihabara district is best. Looking for clothes, Ginza district. If you are looking for just anything. Department stores like Seibu, and Mitsukoshi, and Daiei are all over the place. You can find most anything in them.

You didn't say what part of the country.
There are some major department stores
in Tokyo, try JR Ginza Station. You will
find everything you need. It's beautiful.

You should definitely go to Harajuku.
There are tremendous number of clothing shops
for young people.
I don't know your taste, but it's worth to go to
the shopping mall called Harajuku Laforet.
Regarding the name of the clothes for girls, please check below websites.

You should also hit the kiddy-land.
