We do not have so many North American style malls in Japan. Although the Aeon group has been muidling some malls that are large for Japanese standards, but these are usually in the more outer areas. IN Tokyo the best shopping can be found in the areas of SHibuya, Shinjuku, Ginza, Ikebukuro, and Omotesando. For a all in one corporate mall complete with food court and crying babies you can go to La La Port in the Chiba area.

Well some would say Japan is one giant mall - with millions of train stations in it.
Roppongi Hills is huge - close to one of the biggest I have ever been to - this is in Tokyo. Also pretty big but by no means the hugest are Sunshine City in Ikebukuro. Out side of the Central Tokyo area you have Yokohama - if you count the station as a mail its huge and has hundreds of shops a massive Sogo and a recent addition close by the recent addition of The Bay Quarter Shopping Mall.

I think the biggest mall in Japan is Shinjuku's Takashimaya Time Square.
But if you mean factory outlets, i guess the largest factory outlet in Japan is the Gotemba Premium Outlet.

The two biggest malls I saw in Japan were Hep Five (it's in Osaka and has a huge ferris wheel on the top floor!) and Canal City in Fukuoka (http://www.canalcity.co.jp/english/infomation.html). Canal city was huge!

Of course it is Mall of Japan in Machida (this is about 30 minute south west from Tokyo).

Mall of Japan is major space and can't see in one day. Recently opened. Also brand outlet nearby. Some my girlfriends loving it there.

The biggest mall I have seen in my area would have to be the Amu Plaza. It has the largest amount of stores in one place and is connected to the Kagoshima Central Station so access is easy.
Daiei would have to be the next biggest.
