I'm planning a trip to Tokyo and am wondering if it's worthwhile to spend the money on an upper class hotel like hotel New Otani or should I go with a 3 star hotel like Dai - Ichi Annex.

Thank you!

Hmmm .... that's a very subjective question. Japanese hotels are very professionally run, but personally i find them "huge" and "over the top".

Often they have ( like the New Otani ) great views and can be very expensive for food ..... but the chefs are World Class.

Have a look at these hotels for accomodation in Tokyo and the Akasaka Chiyoda Ku district, at prices that include free extras and work out the value for yourself. You can sort hotels by star rating and price, then look at what's included.

THere's a New Otani Hotel in Japan. I thought the New Otani was in Los Angeles and in Japan has the old Otani Hotel. SO where is the old Otani.

That's funny that you ask. My wife has a bathrobe that her folks or someone got her from the New Otani. Nice bathrobe.

If you can afford it why not - it is just another hotel nothing really special apart from the price (did I miss something!!!).
All hotels in Shinjuku are expensive - in fact all hotels in Tokyo/Yokohama/Kanagawa/Chiba are epensive - it all depends what you can afford.

More worthy of checking out are the Park Hyatt, Strings or Claska hotels.
