My company has changed our list of preferred airlines so I have to switch airlines. I'm currently right around the middle of "silver" status with the airline I normally fly. That's the "lowest" rung of preferred status but I do get upgraded to first class on almost every flight, and I'm going to miss that!

The new list of preferred airlines have all agreed to make a one-time conversion of our existing status, so all I have to do is decide who I want to fly with. I'm mostly concerned with upgrade availability because I know on some airlines, unless you're a Gold member, you don't get upgraded too often.

So if you are a frequent flier, what airline do you fly, what level membership do you have, and how often do you get upgraded OR not get upgraded? Domestic or International?

Thanks!!!

beyond absurd. We are just supposed to dry out and dehydrate onboard? Sounds like the terrorists are getting just what they want-tortured travellers. Really, flying long distances without putting something on my lips-they will crack up! And what about prescription items?

Seriously, how many times have you thought that everytime you got onto a plane?
I make sure to make everyone around me think about that before we take off. I really make sure they think about getting off of the plane before we go, I could save a life or two.
Final Destination 1 is a good movie...

I have to get up at 1/4 past 3 in the morning to get to the airport in time. Do you think I should go to bed early, or is it a waste of time, because I won't be able to sleep, anyway? What do you think? Any tips?

They charge you $50 if you book a flight using frequent flyer miles within 14 days of departure. I thought it was supposed to be FREE travel! They do this even if they have seats available. Is that lame or what? Okay, I'm done venting.

Ok, I got bumped from a flight and I have to use my $400 voucher before March 12 of 2007. I can go from Washington, DC (my home airport) to anywhere in the US or anywhere in Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Carribean. I'm a college student, so it will probably have to be a week or two during December. Where would you guys go? I would prefer somewhere outside of the states. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Box cutters and even the tiniest knives are forbidden on airplanes. But what's to keep someone from bringing a piece of glass on board, shattering it into triangles, and winding a piece of cloth around half of it to use as a handle (a la Raven in Neal Stephenson's book "Snow Crash")? Surely that's a bigger danger than fingernail clippers.
