They charge you $50 if you book a flight using frequent flyer miles within 14 days of departure. I thought it was supposed to be FREE travel! They do this even if they have seats available. Is that lame or what? Okay, I'm done venting.

It's just another way the big man is keeping control of the little man. Yes, it is totally lame.

I don't agree with it but it's a necessasary evil. The whole concept of frequent flier miles was invented way before people in the US were obsessed with cheap travel. The majority of American travellers are not frequent fliers and have no brand loyalty--- they fly a handful of times per year and base their purchases on whoever's cheapest. But the frequent travellers still want rewards. Operating costs are going up but airlines can't pass that along to the consumer as much as they really should because there's always a sale on another airline and people will keep doing what's cheapest. So services and perks keep getting cut back. Just consider yourself lucky that you can actually cash in those miles with only 14 days lead time, especially if they're credit card miles and not actual travel miles, because other airlines have a much longer advance window for you to even be able to redeem those miles.

It does suck--it would be better if they charged more miles within 2 weeks instead. At least OnePass miles don't expire like other airlines
