Hi everyone, I am sure everyone is aware that there is so much competition for flights. I know the main sites expedia, sidestep, kayak, travelocity and many more. Do you know any tips, tricks or any other suggestions how to get good flights even upgrades for a real good price. Please share any knowledge you may have and everyone will be very happy !!

Search expedia or wherever for your cheapest flight but don't book it. Just find out the flight number and airline, then book it directly with the airline. There are no hidden fees and even though the ticket is heavily restricted, it's not as bad as the restrictions you face when going through the resellers. For example, if you buy a ticket from the airline and your travel plans change, you can switch it (not refund it) for about $100, but the same situation bought from a reseller and you are out of luck. No changes, no refunds. And you rarely can upgrade a ticket you buy from a reseller, not even if first class is completely empty.

Also, set your expectations properly. You won't find any first-class tickets anywhere for $200.

For one , be aware that certain discount airlines such as southwest and jet blue do not show fares on many travel sites. So go directly to Southwest.com and often they have good fares. Remember that a saturday night stay is always key to getting a good fare, and that ussualy super cheap fares need 2 weeks advance purchase.

As far as upgrades, If you want to use your miles to upgrade you have to be flexible with dates/times because often many flights do not offer upgrade seats. And if you want cheap first class to buy, check with a consolidater or an auction type site like priceline.com
