When parasailing on a lake, do you take off from shore or the boat? How does each work? It sounds dangerous to take off from shore.

I want to rent a kayak tomorrow and paddle 8 miles across Otago Harbour into town for lunch, and back home afterwards. I haven't used a kayak in over ten years.
Is this advisable?
The water is placid enough, but what do you reckon?

We have been boating for many many years, and tubing is our biggest thrilled, but yet my kids and husband want to learn wakeboarding. Not the knee type. I have looked around for boards and really I am quite confused as to what we should buy and they are EXPENSIVE, especially for a beginner. This would be for my 14yr old son, 90lbs, 12yr old son, 85lbs, and my husband, who is 5'11", weight? Who knows, and then of course me, 5'5", not telling my weight, but under 180, lol. So with that said, can anyone tell me what size, brand, anything we should know about purchasing a reasonable priced board for all of us to learn. Many on EBay, but I don't know what we actually need. Thanks everyone!!

Person who put the name on our boat did not include the comma behind the city. Example LAKE CITY IA instead of LAKE CITY, IA the letters are 4" tall. Legally with the Coast Guard are we OK with no comma?

I want an inexpensive, easy to use, and durable sailboat. I am a beginner and want to buy a sailboat. I want to buy one that wont capsize very easily and is cheap. I want one that can sit 2-4 people. I also want to know the price if possible and where i could find one to buy in Jacksonville, Florida (if possible). Thanks!

i remember seeing it on the amazing race, it was in Italy ( i think in venice), anyway it's: played on still water in a canoe (like a lake), there are 2 teams with a few players on each team, there's a net on each side serving as a goal, there's a ball that is only touched with the paddle to be made into the opposing teams' goal. well that's about it, if possible, please include a link, but the name is just fine if you know it. thanks soooo much!

Anybody know the world surfboard speed record? On a related note, do ocean waves always come rolling up the beach at the same speed? Does the height of the wave affect how fast you could surf?

Thanks, everybody for answering.

how much external pressure can tanks withstand before rupture?

(please read rest of details! )

I KNOW it will be far deeper than a person could actually dive with scuba tanks. I am not looking for the maximum depth a person could reach.

Go to the deepest part of the ocean, put weights on the tanks so they will sink instead of floating, and let them go. How deep do they reach before the water pressure crushes the tanks and releases the air?

Also, will the answer vary depending on whether the tanks are full or empty? Does the internal pressure of the tank help to resist the external pressure of the water?

Finally, can analogous values be found for propane tanks, CO2 tanks, etc?

Which ones would provide the greatest buoyancy?

I may not be expressing this properly. Please be patient with me. If you don't understand, ask for more details and I WILL provide them. Thanks to all who give serious replies!

I don't mean pleasure sailing. I mean competitive racing, team or fleet. Dinghys-no Farr 40s, Transat 52, or huge Trimarans. Do you think that sailing is a sport? Back yourself up.
