Who are your favorite race horses of all time? Why?

Mine are...

- Barbaro ( Because he is a true champion )
- Secretariat ( Because he is a super-horse )
- Ruffian ( Because girls can beat the guys any day! ;)
- Man O' War ( He is just a horse of his great kind )

When looking at the DRF, there are so many things to consider (the type/class of a race, most recent performances, surface, distance, trainer, recent workouts, trainers/riders record coming off 60+ layoff, etc.). Which has the most impact on the outcome?

I am going to the Gold Cup and have Tickets for the Tattersalls and also two seats in the Guinness grandstand. Could anybody advise me where abouts the Guinness stand is in relation to the course and also how easy or difficult it will be to get drinks at the bar and get my bets on for each race. I have looked on the Cheltenham site but can't seem to find this info. I was hoping people with experience might be able to help/advise.

Someone I know has recently bought a 2 year old, off the track thoroughbred mare that was only off the track for a week when she bought it. Within the past year she has gone through 4 horses. Is the training that she is giving to this horse formal, or is it just her training the horse so that it can be used?

What were the circumstances, were you (or someone you know) injured and did your experience (or that of someone you know) change your (or their) attitude about horses, and do you (or they) still ride? Please do not include stories of professionals such as jockeys or rodeo people, but your own personal stories. Thanks.

I am looking at a used saddle that I might buy. I rode in it today, and it is so comfortable.
The only problem is that it has some minor cracking above the knee pads. Is it possible for these cracks to be repaired by a saddle repair shop? I am going to use the saddle for showing.
The rest of the leather is in good condition. It is a very good price, and an expensive brand name. I couldn't find anything on the internet about fixing these cracks, only how to prevent them.
Thanks!

Ps. I asked this in the general pets section, but I think more people will see it here.

What about Man O' War? How good of a racer was he? I'm reading a book at school about him I like just started it though and it just talks about how they think he's the one... like a true champion. I don't get it how good of a racer was he, because he didn't win the Triple Crown and I know he was the sire of Seabiscuit and he won the Triple Crown.

Also...

What about Secretariat? I KNOW that he was a very good racer and won the Triple Crown and the Belmont by 25. But just kind-a tell me about his life I would like to know more.

Also...

What about Ruffian? I never really knew this horse or even heard of her. So just tell me everything about her if ya could because I don't know a single thing about her.
But some people say she was kind-a like Barbaro... is that true?

If ya could just kind-a tell me about these horses because I really want to know about racing history! Thank you soo much!!!!! LUV YA ALL!

There must be loads of people out there with equestrian questions and unless they put them in the 'Horse Racing' category, which is totally different, or in the 'Pets - general' category, there is nowhere to go. Perhaps the moderators will see this and add a new category specially for those who are desperate for horse-related answers.

Why is it when a football match is called off before the start of the game it is stated has postponed,& when called off after if has begun is is called abandoned, yet in horse racing circles only the term abandoned is used even if the meeting has not begun ? This question is for UK circumstances i have no idea if these terms are used globally.
