Um... either Ruffian or Barbaro.

I love Seabiscuit's story and Secretariat was simply an amazing horse. But they were both retired when they died. They had their chance at greatness and they succeeded. They had a nice life after their racing career, living on their farms, running in the fields, and breeding. Neither horse really lived long enough... Seabiscuit had a heart attack at 14 and Secretariat was put down after his laminitis. But compared to Ruffian and Barbaro, they didn't have as much left to live for.

Between Ruffian and Barbaro, I don't know who to choose. It would be awesome to have a Triple Crown winner and Barbaro had a shot at it and I would have loved to see him run the Preakness and Belmont, then face Invasor in the Breeders. But Ruffian was the greatest filly ever and I would like to see her run and win against the colts. And Secretariat's trainer said she might have even been better than Secretariat, so maybe Ruffian deserves the chance to return and prove herself.

I wasn't alive to see Ruffian run whereas I did see Barbaro's Derby run, and the start of the Preakness, so maybe I should pick Ruffian. I was kinda emotionally attached to Barbaro and checked on his condition every day, so maybe Barbaro. But I watch a couple of videos of Ruffian on You Tube at least a couple of times a week because I love watching her since she's so graceful.

So I don't know... I'm indecisive. I want to bring them both back and they can race each other, then they can make Ruffian/Barbaro foals :o)

Definently Barbaro. It would've made for an exciting '06 Preakness and Belmont, and beyond; with him battling Bernardini in the New York tracks (Belmont/Saratoga), and a more exciting BC Classic. He could've been racing this year against older horses, maybe vying for a run in Dubai.

I really wish to see more Derby runners move on to have stellar careers as older horses.

I would say Barbaro because he was a true hearted fighter and I know that he would've won the Triple Crown because he would never give up and let some other horse win. I really miss him to I cried for a long time when he died and he will never be forgotten!

Ruffian! I honestly believe that they never tapped her total potential, meaning we never got to see just how good she really was.

Here are her accomplishments as a 2yo and 3yo:
Acorn Stakes (1975)
Mother Goose Stakes (1975)
Coaching Club American Oaks (1975)
Racing Awards
U.S. Champion 2-Yr-Old- Filly (1974)
4th U.S. Filly Triple Crown Champion (1975)
U.S. Champion 3-Yr-Old- Filly (1975)
Honours
U.S. Racing Hall of Fame (1976)
#35 - Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century

Ruffian is buried near the finish line in the infield at Belmont Park, her nose pointed towards the finish pole. It is often said, "she died on the lead."

Another great filly I would love to see again would be Go For Wand, they never got to the bottom of her potential either. Go For Wand is buried at Saratoga's infield with no marker, an injustice to me but I'm sure her owners have their reasons.

The hurt of losing Barbaro is just too fresh for me to even go there! But I would have loved to see him on the turf at a distance of greater than a mile and an 1/8!

As far as Secretariat goes, he had NOTHING left to prove. I only wish he could have passed his greatness on to his prodigy.

barbaro.
The others led fairly full lives. Though biscut is my favourite racehorse of all time, he had a good long life and was retired. Barbaro wasn't even five years old when he was put down.
