There are now more cameras on Britain’s streets than anywhere else in the world. Police have acquired powers to detain people for weeks without charge, phone lines are allowed to be tapped, internet and email records can be hacked, bank and medical information can now be reviled without consent, and soon we will all be forced to carry ID cards full of our personnel information. In addition there are plans to have sat navigation in every car in Britain to monitor exactly where and when we have been. I live in London and to use any public transport we will all have to use an oyster card, this also monitors exactly where and when we have travelled. I understand the authorities need to tackle crime but are we giving up our basic freedoms to protect our way of life? I appreciate we need to do all we can to tackle terrorism but are the authorities taking advantage of the current climate of fear; this didn’t happen during the IRA’s campaign of attacks.

How come it's called racism when African Americans are called 'blackies' or 'darkies', but SOME of them always refer to us as 'whities' and stuff. lol, I don't mean to offend, I was just wondering. :)

We are much richer, unemployment is rock bottom, we have a longer life expectancy and people seem to be more tolerent of other people's race and religeon. However the gap between rich and poor has widened, the cost of energy has shot up and personel liberties are under attack.

You know how people smack their unopened box of smokes onto their hand, in an attempt to "pack" the loose tobacco back into the cigarette? Is this really necessary, does this really work? If so, which way is the right way to smack it, box top up, or down?

Yes, I'm REALLY that bored.

I was reading an article about this.(yeah yeah, I'm a "pig"). Seriously though, as a man I have the right to go shirtless on a hot day if I choose. I'm not ripped so I generally don't.
...Some women want that right too. I'm fairly convinced the majority of women want to have "them" covered in public.
...Based on what I've seen w/ my finacee, I assume women would rather just be braless...at home at least, but them they would sag in time.

I was just wondering as I heard a man on the bus complaining that the driver was jobsworth as he asked to see his pass that proved he was eligible to travel for free. As he did not have the pass he had to pay for his fare. It seems to me that the man was just doing his job. Does this make him a jobsworth and if so why is it a bad thing?

Five years ago I visited the War graves at Ypres, after seeing the ages of some of the soldiers that were burried there I decided to leave my job as a machine operator, which I had been doing for 15 years, and went to college. I am now into my third year at University. What made you change your life for the better?

Almost all of our "founding fathers" were slave owners. What justifies their owning of slaves, and at this same times, creating the Bill of Rights?

it used to be that it carried a life-long stigma ... someone would always have that copy of Hustler with the girl's picture in it to bring up. But now, there's SO MUCH porn out there, I would think that a single dalliance would just fade into the woodwork.

Besides, porn stars are household names now in America. It seems it hardly carries the stigma it once did.

What do you think?

I've been a vegetarian for over 20 years on ethical grounds. I believed then, and even more strongly now that there are better ways of feeding ourselves than eating dead animals, most of which have been abused and manipulated their entire short lives.
Why is it then that having a concience and trying in my small way to make the world a kinder place, has resulted in a significant minority of people either treating me as if I have a screw loose, or even worse, accusing me of being some sort of dangerous subversive?
Incidentally, I was born and brought up in the country and worked on farms in my teens so I'm not a 'sentimental townie'.
