You know how people smack their unopened box of smokes onto their hand, in an attempt to "pack" the loose tobacco back into the cigarette? Is this really necessary, does this really work? If so, which way is the right way to smack it, box top up, or down?

If you don't want pieces of lit tobacco falling on your fingers then you should pack them, and you should pack them top down!

No...you don't have to "pack" em. It's just personal preference... some people think that it makes the smoke last longer because the tobacco is packed tighter. By the way...think about it, if you smack it box top up, you would be loosening the tobacco.

pack the pack does work if you want to have a even smoke and unpacked means the cig burns up faster and you are wasting you $$ on the pack.... you pack it top down so you do not lose the tobacco

Yes. I used to smoke and if your smokes aren't packed toward the filter then, when you ash, the cherry is likely to fall off the cigarette.

smack them out of your hand into the trash. ive been on n off patches and shots and meds and gum to quit for 2 years now. i just had to get surgery at the dentist on my gums cuz of smoking and i am only 21. stop smoking right now.

I pack my cigarettes so they burn slower, and I pack them upside down, so the tobacco is tight to the filter.

That's hilarious. I've wondered that too! -- Why do they do it?.. They look like idiots!! Do you remember that anti-smoking commercial where that monkey was packing the ciggarettes?... Everytime I see someone do that, I think of that! Hahaha!
