I was just wondering as I heard a man on the bus complaining that the driver was jobsworth as he asked to see his pass that proved he was eligible to travel for free. As he did not have the pass he had to pay for his fare. It seems to me that the man was just doing his job. Does this make him a jobsworth and if so why is it a bad thing?

i understand that the man wanted to lash out at someone, but why is it seen that if you do your job correctly it is a bad thing and that it can be used as an insult?

Since he didn't have the pass and was riding the bus, he probably didn't have a pass and was lying. Since he got caught, he thought he had to lash out at someone. The driver who caught him was, of course, the one.
