We will be voting whether or not to allow slots at race tracks. Those opposed bring up addiction or religious reasons. What is the difference between gambling and investing in stocks? You risk your money for a possible profit. I'm forced to participate in a 401K because my employers(God rot them!) froze pensions. I lost hundreds of dollars with "low risk" investments. Others lost tens of thousands. If gambling with your retirement isn't immoral, I don't see why having some fun with my own money and losing it is. I could go see a bad movie, or eat at a bad restaurant, but nobody cares. If I buy state lottery tickets or go to church bingo games, it is OK. If I put my money in a slot and pull the handle I am EVIL! WHY? I don't gamble much because I'm risk adverse, but I would like to know the difference between "good" gambling and "bad" gambling.

Today I saw in the news that another homeless man has been beating to a pulp here in South Florida. This is the 3rd case, and I'm sure everyone heard about the teenagers who beat a homeless man to death.
What's going on with people these days? I would never, ever hurt anyone or anything more vulnerable or less fortunate than I. What's going on?

inherently evil about communism / socialism that does not deny people the right to practice their faith. One of the problems in past systems has been regimes that are corrupt, that steal money from the people even though the stated purpose is to have a classless society.
Of course the rich want to get richer, and that is one problem people will have with communism. But how about the idea of leaving nobody behind?

I have been passed over MANY times based soley on this factor. What frustates me is that 99% of peope who are bi-lingual were raised in that environment. If I am to be bi-lingual, I must take classes to learn another language. Just doesn't seem right.

For the record, I am not talking about jobs directly related to language (like an interpreter) where it is general knowledge one must speak 2 languages.
