There is a lot of knashing of teeth on this Shuttle misson launching this weekend.

Yes, there ARE a lot of enept managers in/at NASA who have no concept of engineering/science fundamentals, and the Challenger was just one instance of which management overrode safety concerns, and decided to launch anyway, but then pointed the finger when things did not go as planned(but then, passing the buck in FAILURE has become america's national pastime. You don't see too much finger pointing in success, do we?).

But I can tell you as an engineer, Space travel will NEVER be "safe", strapping yourself basically to a
rocket going several miles per second, and a ehigh level of complexity. SAFE is when you are dead, that's the only time in life any of us will really be safe. Not in your home, not in a monster truck/suv, and not on the Shuttle.

If given the shot to go on a flight, and the odd's are 1 in 100 I will not make it, then that is what I consider an acceptable risk. I wish I could go!

I do not believe in races, however I recognize ethnic differences.
I refuse to say AFRO-AMERICAN.
I do not say HISPANIC.
I do not complain when I am not called german-, scottish-, swedish-, english- american or even euro-american
white is fine even though my skin is as far from white as a black person's skin is from black.
i do not believe in affirmative action, although I believe every individual should also not be denied a job because of skin color. reason> a black child does not starve worse because the family has no income nor does a white child, therefore I believe that there should be no preference either way-first qualified come, first qualified served!
does this make me racist?

It is a 'geven' that whites can be racist.
I have run ito times where I have been the 'victim' (I use that word very loosely) of racism, too.
I had a job with a black supervisor. He constantly gavce the easy jobs to two black girls and then the next easiest job to black guys and so on until the hardest jobs were ALWAYS given to whites and the 'easiest' hard jobs went to white girls.
I reported this as both racism and sexual harrassment
The supervisor came out the next day and informed everyone of the allegations.
at this point EVERY black said racism?
followed by comments like "racist against who? the foreman ain't white!"
and even a few "what? white guys afraid to work?" type comments
the reaction basically that it wasn't even POSSIBLE for blacks to be racist!

so how can it be called racism if htese actions are happening to the blacks?

EVITE (www.evite.com) makes it as easy to RSVP as pushing a button, yet many don't & still show up.

How do I deal with these people? They are otherwise very nice people & we want them at the party. We just want to know if & when (we throw three-day parties) they are coming and if they might be spending the night.

Perhaps 'racism' and 'homophobia' are a political smothering blanket to prevent any rational discussion. Do Asians coexist peacefully with Africans and Afro-Caribbeans? Do Bangladeshis coexist peacefully with Pakistanis, Hindus and Sikhs? Do whites coexist peacefully with Africans and Afro-Caribbeans? Bangladeshis, Pakistanis, Hindus and Sikhs.

It has to be people from history who are no longer alive. For me, it would be Queen Elizabeth I, Oscar Wilde and Thomas Jefferson.

why do the parents not make them wear normal formal presentable clothese, since they are going to school. ? I guess it's true that bad parenting is the cause of these kids falling into crime and crap. What do you think, even if they had good parenting, would they still be cholos??

My cousin is so outgoing.. and he lived in mexico, did so much stuff was influenced so much by friends and so on even was like a rebel, but he didn't end up a gangster nor was he even a criminal. He's a hard worker, and his parents and family are close bonded and that's why hes good. I also never got into any thing gang related and i have a good family relationship. So are those kids who are not studying and who begin to do bad things since Junior high, does it necesarily mean they have a bad family relationship?

If blacks represent only 14-18% of the population ( I am admittedly unsure what the last cencus showed), should they not be equally represented in everything?
But facts show this is not the case.
Blacks, although in total number are completely outnumbered in this by whites, have the highest percentage (of there own population segment), of people on welfare.
represent over 70% of prison inmates in men and over 50% in women.
Have the highst percentage of unwed mothers.
have the highest percentage of high school drop outs

How can these things be and yet Racism is cried most often by that segment of our citizenry for everything from lower paying jobs, to Racial profiling in crimes.

Is it really racism, or is it a failure to recognize reality?
