EVITE (www.evite.com) makes it as easy to RSVP as pushing a button, yet many don't & still show up.

How do I deal with these people? They are otherwise very nice people & we want them at the party. We just want to know if & when (we throw three-day parties) they are coming and if they might be spending the night.

The last Evite reminder said

"I'll be doing my shopping tommorrow so if I could get a final word on who thinks they are going to be here, that would be great. I've also gotten some calls asking what people are bringing. If you are thinking of bringing something (totally optional), it would be handy to include that info on the RSVP so we don't get 5 bowls of potato sald like we did one year.

Pizza is Saturday night. Some people are Bring fireworks for Saturday & maybe Sunday. The city has it's fireworks display Tuesday night.

If you want to reserve a room, please RSVP as soon as possible.

Everything else depends on who shows up, with what & when. It's hard to plan anything when you have no idea who's coming & when. So please RSVP."

Blunt enough?

I know exactly what you are talking about. How inconsiderate can some people be? They are really putting you in an akward place by just showing up but I think you should tell them your house is full and give them the name of the sleziest hotel in town for them to spend the night and maybe next time they will be the first to RSVP.

Unfortunately, you'll have the job of contacting them. Say something like "your rsvp return must have gotten lost in the mail so I wasn't sure if you were coming" -- a little guilt can't hurt. It's not right really as people put money out depending on how many people are going to show up.

On Evite, you can send out reminders for those who have not RSVPed and I believe you can add a statement. I would put that "please let us know if you will be there or not so we can plan for food".

It just seems that people have lost their manners these days. I have the same trouble with people not bothering to RSVPing and then just showing up! ARG!

It is probably because they don't understand what RSVP is, or they know but think that you have enough to accommodate them. To deal with them just take them aside and explain to them what you wanted. If they get offended then it is not really your fault because you requested RSVP.

People have started to RSVP only if they decline, they don't realize that you should RSVP either way so the host can plan properly!

The single biggest problem in American society today is a lack of manners. As Heinlein said, "Manners are the grease in the gears of society".

Thank you.

The same reason they don't send thank you cards anymore. People are rude, self centered and ungrateful in general.
