I do not believe in races, however I recognize ethnic differences.
I refuse to say AFRO-AMERICAN.
I do not say HISPANIC.
I do not complain when I am not called german-, scottish-, swedish-, english- american or even euro-american
white is fine even though my skin is as far from white as a black person's skin is from black.
i do not believe in affirmative action, although I believe every individual should also not be denied a job because of skin color. reason> a black child does not starve worse because the family has no income nor does a white child, therefore I believe that there should be no preference either way-first qualified come, first qualified served!
does this make me racist?

I should add:
Of my former girlfriends I can count 3 whites, the blacks, one latina, andI married a Mexican woman.
I knowingly moved from a predominantly white area to a prdominantly black urban area because it was what I could afford and 'race' did not enter into the decision

I like what you said and you're right. Like we keep hearing terms like "African-American" and "Mexican-American." Last time I checked this was America and we are Americans. If everyone were to list their ancestry then things would really get complicated and messy. So why do we need special terms for AMERICANS?

No, you are not racist. But, affirmative action does help level the playing field to a certain degree. Look around you hon, the majority of people in big, rich, high profile positions are white males. The men in change of the most powerful nations on earth are white males. Fortune 500 companies? Mainly run by white males and females. The majority of people who graduate from college? A much larger percentage of white people compared to black and Hispanic. This is life hon. People are going to be racist when hiring people, whether the person is qualified or not.
If affirmative action gives black youth from the ghetto more of a chance to make it in this world, then so be it.

You may be viewed as a racist because of your refusal to recognize that because people are different, they still are being treated unequally.
I appreciate that you want to see people as individuals and not as a race. If everyone though like you, we would not have need affirmative action. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks like you do. Some will still keep certain minorities out just because they can.
Now ask yourself, do you really give all races equal treatment?
We've created such a mess when we chose to separated based on race and have the label of minority. It automatically creates a conflict. Things won't be the way that you hope they will be (not seeing race) because as you said, you will be seen as a racist. Crazy isn't it?

Not really, But to be honest your "white" and things may come a lot easier for you then a black or Hispanic person.
I see nothing wrong with what your saying, but I do believe in Affirmative Action. I know many a people who got their Job because of it and if it weren't there, they know they wouldn't have it.
I never can understand why people make race such a big deal. Live and let live.
Oh and you do need to drink a beer and relax. Thanks for the two points!

No you have some very valid points and you have every right too feel the way you do; however their are thousands of ppl who don't break in dwn like this; Black ppl need to realize that we cry about being called ******, colored and all other offensive names, but Africans don't like us being called African American cause they feel like since we were born in America, free, healthy, working and "wealthy' and never felt the pains of hunger, the smell of dead bodies, rape or all the other devastation's they endure we are Americans and that's it. Being a Black American I am proud to be free, healthy, working and it don't matter the color of my skin, ur skin or the skin of any other person as long as I am here, having faith in God, with my family and receiving God's blessing race, color and working is not a problem.

No it doesn't make u a racist but unfortunately ppl don't feel the same way u do. And me being a black (yeah I don't mind being called black, becasue a white person from Africa can be called an african-american, so what's in a name?) female feel ur views are fair and I'm all about fair. BUT like I said everybody isn't as mature as u are on this subject.

No, it makes you forward-thinking guy.
Two people have race in common will probably have less in common than two people of different races but the same culture/ethnicity.
Race is just a way to separate people based on the way people look. Culture and ethnicity can push people apart, but it can also bring people together and you may learn something new in the process.

Absolutely not! everything you say is completely legitimate. the problem with our country is that there are communist organizations like the ACLU who try and make people like you and i feel racist just for praying in schools or saying the words "one nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Affirmative action has hurt the black community more than it has helped it! just because you believe that we should remove affirmative action from every aspect of our lives does not make you racist in the least!

No. You believe in equal treatment of all races. That includes not giving benefits to either minorities or the majority.
If you were to take a particular ethnicity, single out all of their individual negative traits, and apply this stereotype to all people of that ethnicity and treat them differently b/c of it, then you would be racist.

No, it doesn't. I am black and I think people need to get off that crap. Affirmative Action causes more "race" issues and I do believe that blacks started far behind whites, we can accomplish anything.
