If a group of people get marooned on an island or travel to Mars and start a colony, will they develop their own specialized accent?

I've been to several different colonies that used to be British countries, and it seems Australia is the only one with people who have mostly retained their accents..no, most people don't have Steve Irwin-esque accents! The Northeast of the United States also seems to have people who have some remnant of their old world accents and mannerisms...

Have there been any studies or research?

I am wondering this. All of my friends that I have don't take me seriously and make fun of me, I have only had one girlfriend and she was a nerd and yet she dumped me the next day because I wasn't cool enough, everyone hates me, and I have had only 3 good friends in the world... but I always loose touch with them... I have really not thought of it, but I think I don't have a good life. Help?

Well a couple of years ago,on my birthday. My dads co-workers sung a birthday song to me.This is how it went
"Happy birthday please to meet ya,your one year older one year wiser One year WHITER your another step kinder. So put a smile on your face because it's your birthday *****!
Now does that sound idiotic or what? The one year whiter kinda offended me.But I did'nt say anything because I did'nt want to start any mess.Do you think it's racist?

It is a valid question.

And would you leave your homeland, hometown to live there?

You'd probably just be good buying your own island, I guess?

What do you think should happen to people who mistreat the elderly? Also, does it bother you how many people are rude to the elderly in stores and businesses?

I mean people view life in different ways. To me living out your life is a personal thing, it cannot be shared. Advice and such can be offered but the actual process of living is yours and yours alone. Along the way it's like God allows you insight, little bits of valuable wisdom to reflect on the process, either the future or what you've passed. It could have been there all along and wasn't processed, but it seems as if God points it out to us as we age.
What's your idea of living life to the fullest?

Seriously, I believe there is a god, but I don't believe he has ever told any man what he truly desires. I'm not a religous person, but in arguments, I've told religious nuts that unless god comes down and tells me they're right, they're full of it! I believe that all god wants is for people to coexist in harmony in the best way possible without being greedy, sociopathic or uncharitable. I don't believe any freaking Bible of Koran, right down to the passage, is any kind of guide for how people should live. In fact, it's dangerous if some looney tunes(and there are too many) start taking the words and passages literally and cause harm to themselves and others. This is true for all religions, especially Islam, but also Chrisitianity!

Sometimes when I read answers here and see people respond with specific passages from the Bible, I get shivers down my spine! I fear many are misinterpreting the passages, giving them a warped impression of what god "wants".

I don't think I'm crazy at all.

By the way, I saw a KY question on here from another Yahoo! user, and I'd figure I'd ask a question while it was fresh on my mind.

The land is beautiful; I love Land Between the Lakes, Natural Bridge, and Cumberland Falls, to name a few. However, the people are rude and impolite. I work two jobs--one in government and one in retail--and the best people I deal with are from outside Kentucky, places like Michigan, New Jersey, Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, etc. Kentuckians are clipped, impolite, hateful, and don't say "please" and "thank you." I'm nice, friendly, polite, smiling, outgoing type, by the way. Anyway, I've been up north, out in the midwest and southwest, deep south, Florida, and up to NYC and NJ. While there are nice and mean people everywhere, KY has some major snobs. Even just a few weeks ago, I was going to Memphis and made two stops. Fulton, KY was rude and hateful; JUST 40 miles south in Dyersburg, TN it was warm and friendly.
