Ok for pple who don't get it....sorry ...leant a lot about art (paintings, etc).....but there was only one kind I really liked : Dutch painters and oriental art.

Just because you are explained the meanings behind a certain painting does not necessarily mean you will like it...........spend lots of times abroad in "inbroad" in museums etc...so.....am trying to explain myself here.

I feel the same way, esp. about progressive jazz. Just a guy tinkering all over the piano, hardly in rythym, and a guy tooting a horn all over the place? Uh-uh, no way. It takes more talent to read music, IMO.

I think the best way to enjoy some of the classic forms is to hear a jazz rendition of a song you already know. Then it's easier to appreciate how they change it up, and improvise on it. Examples might be "O Tannenbaum" from the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack (a little early for Xmas, I know!), or Dave Brubeck's "My Favourite Things". Or there's a lot of latin jazz out there (i.e. Mongo Santamaria, or Tito Puente) with big bands and lots of rhythm to go along with their jazz techniques. Some of the more contemporary stuff can be harder to relate to, since people are trying to do something that hasn't been done before but it sometimes becomes more of an intellectual exercise rather than something that can be easily listened to and enjoyed.

What is it that you have against picasso? There is good jazz and bad, like all forms of music. The beauty of jazz lies in the unexpected; there are different chord progressions and such like that move away from conventional patterns. It is good not to comprehend and just enjoy sometimes

Why are you only apologizing to jazz fans? What about art lovers?

You should try and let both art and music wash over you. Feel their influence. Don't try to analyse either. Enjoy.
