I've never gotten chewed out at work. Okay, once I did, but I contend that I didn't do anything wrong. I was immature then, so I wanted to fight back. But, because it was this supervisors last week, I went ahead, and took it. But, had he not been leaving, I would have taken the matter to higher management. Oh, you know what? I did get chewed out again recently, but it was real brief. My manager hadn't had any sleep in days, and was going around chewing everyone out at work. I got a brief lashing from him, but it went by so quick that I just blew it off. I worked too fast, that my pace caused problems in other parts of the company. Had he been calm, he wouldn't have said anything.
I am sorry, but I don't think any of my experiences can help you out. I could suggest a humble, submissive attitude. If you feel that you are right, then calmly explain it. If you still feel that you are being wronged, then I suggest taking it to higher management.

Well, that depends. There's a thin line between "giving it back to them" and insubordination. That's one of the reasons for union reps so you don't have to be alone in a room with management and perhaps say something that will adversely impact your employment. Me, I would just sit there and take it and start looking for another job because I'd have the feeling that things arn't going to get better unless I go or there's a change in management.

They are you're boss, they are supposed to command you, don't take any physical abuse and every boss has a boss, at least in public companies, use your brain and go to the real superior one and explain what is happening. Also, if it really isn't much, then take it, just think about it, they are you're boss, that is what they are there for, not to play mrs/mr. nice with us. Also, if it helps, those who are powerless like to act like they have power. God luck ;)!

Just take it. I had a boss like this, I didn't respond well to his yelling. Years later, I look back and kind of miss it. With him, you always knew where you stood. If you did something stupid, you had instant correction. I've spoken with him since and he's really a nice guy.

I think it depends on the situation. NO one has a right to talk to you like crap-bosses tend to get their panties in a wad from time to time. It depends on how much you enjoy your job when the boss doesnt have an attitude up his bum.

Depends on what kind of chew out it is. Don't let him/her cuss you out. NOPE stand up for yourself. If your boss is chewing you out for something you did wrong....take it again so long as he isn't cussing you out. I won't stand for that personally. You gotta stand up for yourself, especially if you are being thrown under the bus or wrongly accused.

I sit there and take it. what else can i do. i need my job. he usually will offer an apology in his own way a few minutes later because he knows im a good worker. i used to get really upset and go home all crying and depressed. now i just consider thats who my boss is and that its not worth upsetting my life for him. i go home now and do something for me like shop or listen to music to make myself feel better. exercise is really good for stress. just don't let the jerk get to you. he/she is not worth getting an ulcer over.

It depends on how much you need the job. If your boss is just being an *** than you need to talk to somebody. You shouldn't be treated this way.

Just take it. If you really value your job just sit there and take it. Unless she/he starts getting abusive, then thats when you "give it back to them"!!
