So said various people when looking at quotes...

"thou shall not bear false withness"(trash talking). I guess it's progressive to talk behind peoples backs and talk trash. Works for the gossip mags.

"do not covet". (Keeping up with the "Jones" will only leave you BROKE)

"do not commit adultery"(with all the STD's, AID's, shattered relationships based on sex, etc, we have made a LOT of progress here)

Is it really outdated, or is it also an inconvienient truth?

Looking for "translations" of city slicker to country bumpkin phrases, sayings, etc.. For example: In the city, you might say "Going to the bar this weekend to hang with some friends"... and in the country it might translate into "Heading down to the barn dance at old man Avery's to cut a rug". Any more examples out there? Some you know or some you've just come up with?? Be creative!! My vote goes to the funniest! :) (no vulgarity please)

Instead of actually playing within your ability, or within the rules of the game, video games can now be manipulated for 'desired' results...

Can you think of how this might rear its head when kids then grow up and are looking for that extra advantage(now that they are conditioned to cheat) in life? When you "fix" the results, or change the goal-posts during the game, did you really "win"?

Why is smoking (in your opinion) viewed differently to any other drug addiction?

It is, in essence, a physical dependance upon a drug and yet smokers often seem to get slated rather than helped, as they would if it was cocaine or smack they were addicted to.

What do you think?

The views in this question are not neccesarily my own, by the way!

Life is short and uncertain. What is your wish for life?

In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives you air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives you water to drink and food to eat.
God gives you a wonderful body and sound mind, to live.
God loves you, and you are precious to Him.
Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.
Life therefore has fantastic and glorious future!

I am intrigued by the Ford mustang ever since seeing one at a classic car show last month. I think it was a late 60's model (none of that modern crap) in shining black, and, for an American car, was gorgeous (not that American cars are ugly, but from a UK perspective they are often highly impractical).

I was wondering what the status of this car is in the US- do people look at them and go 'oh, a 40 year old Ford,', or do they have a certain 'wow' factor like they do in the UK?

PS, A friend of a friend owns one, it's a Mustang Boss (...), but I can't remember the three numbers that follow- supposedly it is very rare- any ideas?

Thanks!

What does that really mean? Is it never OK to conform to different situations and adapt? Or, does that mean you're not being true to yourself. The reason I'm asking this is because I find myself subconsciously changing the way I talk depending on my environment. Around my black friends and family, I tend to talk with more slang. Around my white friends, I tend to talk more proper and say things like "awesome" or "sweet" or "bummer". It seems like i'm a bunch of different people. Some days i'm ghetto. Other days i'm prim and proper. Other days I'm rocker chic and it goes on and on.

Does this mean I haven't discovered who I really am? I'd like to think that I just have many different facets to me. What do you think?

So much advice tells us to 'be ourselves' or 'be true to ourselves', and yet we would all agree that it behooves us to undertake a certain amount of self improvement e.g. if someone tells you that you are rude, it would be worthwhile makeing an attempt to be more courteous, the same goes with other things like being more confident, more loving, more literate, more open minded, more healthy etc.

This contradiction has been haunting me for years. I would very much like to change and improve myself, but I keep being told that I should just be myself. What am I supposed to do?

I'm off to the Amazon in two months and I suffer extremely severely from a phobia of spiders (yes, I know the Amazon isn't the best place to be in this case!)

What I want to know is, is there any way to 'cure', or lessen, such a phobia? Someone recommended hypnotherapy but this seems expensive and with dubious results.

Someone else just said go to my local zoo and (after a word with the warden!) see if you can get in to a tarantula tank- apparently this can 'overload' the phobia and I will just grow accustomed to their presence.

Any ideas?
