So said various people when looking at quotes...

"thou shall not bear false withness"(trash talking). I guess it's progressive to talk behind peoples backs and talk trash. Works for the gossip mags.

"do not covet". (Keeping up with the "Jones" will only leave you BROKE)

"do not commit adultery"(with all the STD's, AID's, shattered relationships based on sex, etc, we have made a LOT of progress here)

Is it really outdated, or is it also an inconvienient truth?

No, the Bible is not outdated. The golden rule is not out dated, nor are the 10 commandments. People spend millions of dollars on self help books because their are so many of us that are un happy. If we just paid attention to the basics, such as the 10 commandments, the Golden Rule, and service to others that is talked about in the Bible, so many of us would find much more joy in life. Other major religions have similar rules to live by, and their is a reason for that. We need to pay attention to this.

I am not against the bible, just as I am not against the Odyssey or any other mythological/religious writings. I am, however, very against the people who take these writings as fact, without questioning them. Considering when the bible was written, I think that any scholar or lawmaker or logical thinking person would say the bible is outdated, whether you are religious or not. But I would also think those same people would have to say that the bible is full of great "stories" that can lead you on the right path in life. But let's not forget they are indeed stories, and not fact. If you take a walk down the isle of any self-help section isle in any bookstore, you'll find thousands of suggestions, or "stories" that will lead you down the same path. The bible was OK with slavery, so should the slavery laws be re-instated? Why is it that only the good things are used or quoted, or what we as a society think of as good.

easily, i'm no longer particular if human beings doubt if that is actual, what maximum doubt is the relevance and the accuracy contained in the translations. at the same time as Constantine keen to positioned the bible jointly, he disregarded some books as he felt they were no longer correct for the cases and he needed the bible to administration the thousands and what they were believing. and that is actuality from heritage. a good number of the information that archaeologists are looking help that the bible is actual. even if, it also helps that the evidence shows that is actual to the better of the cases. alongside with the flood and the Arc on the time became outfitted in a small city in a low valley between intense plains. From the position Noah stood, it gave the effect of the international had flooded because he in undemanding words knew the small area he lived in. in simple terms as Columbus idea the international became flat because he noted no longer some thing distinct from the position he stood. The parting of the pink sea truly is the REED see as there wasn't a note for REED decrease back then to translate. i imagine perchance taking a heritage lesson contained in the bible taught through a non believer would income you in looking the reality.

The bible may be old, but it certanaliy is not outdated. I t has alot of usefull materials and stories. And yes we have all herd the stories of adom and eve and noah and stuff like that, but there are lots we havn't heard cause we never find the time to read it even though we should. besides this has to be a good book for being so popular for thousands of years. As for the inconvienient truth. Are you kidding?!?! the bible is all truth that we should apply to everyday life. The bible never lies. It's like a rule book with wisdom. And you should believe in jesus with all your heart you can go to heavan. That's all I have to say.

i think the bible is not outdated it has a lot of useful answers as well as many truths to it. like as you said with the std's, shattered marriages the "do not commit adultery" is a very good truth and if people followed it more we wouldn't have all the problems we do today. another one that is true is wait until marriage and sex is between a husband an wife. look at all of the unwanted pregnancies with teens. the bible is a good guideline to follow your life by. it has the answers in it.

im a wiccan/pagan kind of faith and take pride in learning and knowing as much as possible about any and every religion i can....for me the bible is the youngest religious script that exists and the bad thing is that they want you to believe it word for word when its been translated hundreds of times by some not so great or truthful people(king james admitted to having lied or over exaggerated in his translation)besides the fact that you and i could watch a auto crash and wed both have different explanations of what happened....that doesnt give much faith for a book written by several people.however it is a good reference for morals...no matter your religion the basics are all the same simply put....(do what you will as long as you harm none).the thing is if we decide that it is outdated and change it thats just one more removal from the truth that it once contained.oddly the jewish version is closest to the original having been translated once from hebrew to jewish. besides the fact that in all of our translations the are instances where what is actually says cannot be translated because the exact word or definition doesnt exist in the translated language.....(ex:some english terms and words dont exist or have different meanings in spanish)so theres no way to know what is truth or made up.

Besides the sound advice that is offered in the bible, you have to understand that it is a tool for historians and anthropologists. The occurrences discussed in the bible are believed to provide some kind of historical accounts of actual occurrences. Combining this information with other clues, scientists can get a better picture of ancient history and culture.

In that respect, the bible is key.

"So said various people"

Who? No one's ever said that to me. I wouldn't use the terms "outdated" and "useless" myself. I would say, "book of childrens' fairy tales with rules snuck in". I'm just amazed that people need to be told by a 'higher power' that it's 'wrong' to steal, murder, commit adultery, etc. Really, if you can't figure this out for yourself, you have other problems.

It was told in the earliest books of the Bible that Ishmael (Arab descent) and Isaac (Jews) would be enemies until the end. Is that still the case? It won't be outdated until everything physical is gone.

Outdated, yes; Useless, no.

The Bible still gives us a general idea of how to live life.

But since it was written by MAN, it does need to be updated to conform with the morals of today.
