What does this mean?

2007-10-09 04:36:20 · 12 answers · asked by Country Girl 3

Okay, so the Mayans "predicted" the end of the world would be December 21st, 2012. (Or maybe their demise just came before they could finish off the calendar?) And then I know there's some junk about the I-Ching. But what I want to know about is if the north and south poles inside of the Earth will switch or not... or maybe if a huge solar eclipse will ruin us.

If the poles did switch, what would happen? Would it happen exactly on that date, or happen over a period of hours, days, months? What's the chance of the poles switching? If the poles didn't switch, what would happen instead, if anything?

And, lastly, do you believe that 12/21/'12 is the end of the world as we know it?

Thanks to all who answer.

The following quote is from the book, The Odyssey.

Now Ithaca lies low, furthest up the sealine toward the darkness, but those others face the dawning and the sun: a rugged isle, but a good nurse of noble youths; and for myself I can see nought beside sweeter than a man's own country. Verily Calypso, the fair goddess, would fain have kept me with her in her hollow caves, longing to have me for her lord; and likewise too, guileful Circe of Aia, would have stayed me in her halls, longing to have me for her lord. But never did they prevail upon my heart within my breast. So surely is there nought sweeter than a man's own country and his parents, even though he dwell far off in a rich home, in a strange land, away from them that begat him. But come, let me tell thee too of the troubles of my journeying, which Zeus laid on me as I came from Troy.

eg. the oracle of Delphi from Oedipus Rex

the only fortune tellers i know of are the gypsy-like ones with scarves and mystic balls... i have to draw a greek oracle for a project but have no idea what he/she would look like. i'm guessing they wouldn't have a mystic ball....

i've tried googling pics but to no avail. do you have any possible links/descriptions?

thanks a lot!

Her worship continued unabated clear up until its
violent suppression by Iron Age patrism. When and where worship of the Mother prevailed women and Nature were held in esteem. The Chinese called Her Kwan Yin; the Egyptians knew Her as Isis; the Navajo call Her Changing Woman. To the Greeks She was Gaia, and to many black peoples She is Yemanja. She is Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, and She says: "All acts of love and pleasure are my rituals." She is also the ancient Crone Hecate, who gives us both wisdom and death.
She is diversity. There can be no such thing as all "Good" or all "Evil." Death is part of the natural cycle as night follows day and we accept it with grace as Her final gift. The search for Balance is the goal of Her people. It is achieved by the acceptance of multiple paths and truths. The eldest and greatest aspect of is as Great Mother Nature, the all-encompassing energy of Universal Life.
