like his father, hyperion, helios plays virtually no role in greek culture and little role in mythology (his two main cult centres were on the island or rhodes and in the city of korinthos. he was not widely worshipped outside of these two regions; he takes zeus' side in the war against titans; he is being cursed by aphrodite at some point, but i believe it is just because he is too much confounded with apollo etc.).
i don't think we can say he was born in greece, as he, along with his parents and the other titans are the greek way of explaining the origin of the universe.

"Helios dwelt in a golden palace located in the River Okeanos at the eastern ends of the earth. From there he emerged each dawn driving a chariot drawn by four, fiery winged steeds and crowned with the aureole of the sun. When he reached the the land of the Hesperides (Evenings) in the West he descended into a golden cup which carried him around the northern streams of Okeanos back to his rising place in the East."

"The sun-god dwells in the East, crosses the dome of the sky in his chariot drawn by a team of four horses, descends in the West into the stream of Oceanus, which encircles the earth, and then sails back to the East to begin a new day."

i think it's safe to say EAST is the birthplace of the sun god helios, as he is being born every single day.

In Greek mythology the sun was personified as Helius. He was a son of the Titans Hyperion and Theia and brother of the goddesses Selene, the moon, and Eos, the dawn. The names of these three were also the common Greek words for sun, moon and dawn.
Helios was imagined as a handsome god crowned with the shining aureole of the sun, who drove a chariot across the sky each day and night.
