People of all cultures have been predicting the end of the world for millenia now. But every morning, the sun has still risen and the world continues. Oh, the world will end some day. Nothing lasts forever. Eventually the sun will run out of fuel and it will die, taking our earth along with it. Humanity will probably be extinct by then. It's a long way off!
It is possible that the Mayan calendar is predicting a polar shift. Those happen every 6000 years or so. The last one happened around 4000BCE. It's what turned the Sahara desert and most of the middle east into a desert. They used to be lush and green. So we are due for a polar reversal and possibly a climate shift. It seems unnatural and traumatic because it doesn't happen often (to humans, that is) but to the earth, it's a routine thing. It's possible some people may die, but I don't think it will wipe out humanity or cause the earth to just be some dead lump of rock, completely uninhabitable for living things.
A polar shift doesn't happen overnight. It takes place over a period of time. So there's really no set date. When the poles switch, what is north will be south and what is south will be north. We'll get some crazy weather, perhaps land that was once hospitable will become uninhabitable and vice versa.
If you think about it, every time something major happened in our lives, it was the end of the world as we knew it, but we went on living all the same. So, there's really nothing to get all excited about. What happens, happens, and there's nothing anyone can do to change it.

ok it is proven that the poles have switched before and probably will again when this thing happens (it's when we are perfectly aligned with this big black hole in the center of the universe and the sun).they aren't sure if the switch will happen immediately or not but if it does happen immediately then yes, life as we know it will cease to exsist.99% of the population will probaby die and there will be like major tidal waves as the oceans adjust to the switch and all the coastal cities would be wiped off the map and people would starve b/c the crops would die off and if the switch does happen then Alaska would be right on the equator ond the southern states would freeze.BUT if it happens over time then we probably would just keep living the way we are and won't even notice the change except you know they'd have to change the science books and all but no i seriously doubt that December 21,2012 will be the end of the world.

Hey, I saw that show on cable, too! Very interesting...I am also interested in the pole-switching aspect of the prophecy. The show said that the change would happen 'rapidly' (but didn't elaborate on exactly how rapidly)...& that that would cause intense negative planetary repercussions...icing, flood, etc. The hypothesis is that when the planets align in a certain way -- every 25,000 years -- poles switch. Maybe that will happen; maybe not...I guess we'll all just have to wait & see...maybe it'll be just another scare -- like Y2K & all the others that came before warning all Earthlings that the end was near! I'm a skeptic.

The Mayan civilization did not foresee their own demise, why would they have any creditability?
There is no reason an eclipse would damage the earth, it is for all intensive purposes just a shadow.
It would, and does, take a long time for the poles to switch or even change position. I think they move slightly every year and are constantly changing throughout history.

Hollywood and fantasy. There are logical motives why the earth won't end on December 21, 2012. maximum folk have self belief it is going to with the aid of Myan civilization. Their nicely-commonplace calendar ends that day. maximum folk have self belief this why end the mankind. maximum scientists and philosophers have self belief in any different case even with the undeniable fact that. The Mayans mysteriously disappeared around 250 advert. some think of they died off from the Spanish, others think of they have been extraterrestrial beings. the only logical clarification i'd desire to arise with is that their calendar became into over 2000+ years previous, so why could they might desire to make yet another? that they had plenty time. they simply disappeared, and subsequently could no longer boost it. i do no longer think of that the international will end, we've some years of mankind left. thank you wish I helped with your question.

the poles always switch constantly, nothing bad will happen if when they switch again. The most that could happen is the compasses turning the wrong way.. pointing to south instead of north. And i honestly dont know when the end of the world is.

2012 marks the beginning of a new era in our human civilization on Earth. It will be the end of the old way of life. It will not be the end of our race.
It is possible that there will be some changes on Earth as far as its position in our galaxy. Or the poles may shift. The only result would be some flooding and climate changes. We will survive these changes.
If you look at the history of planet Earth, you will see that Earth goes through these changes naturally. We are a strong race. We will adapt to our surroundings.
The Mayans are an ancient civilization. They are long gone. So, 2012 just marks a period of transition in our advancement as a race and our development.

Every day that we get closer, denial gets higher. Interesting. The reality program is scheduled to terminate on that day or close to it. The bottom line is that other than any physical changes with the Earth itself (which is ascending to the next level), no one will be aware of it as reality as we know it may be substituted with another program and unless we knew that (like some do), we would be none the wiser and think everything is the same as it always was.
