As a Christian, I am often accused of believing in a delusion. However, if there is no God, then there are no universal ethical truths. Belief in “right” and “wrong” are just as fictional as a belief in God. Most people would agree that “molesting children is always wrong,” or “genocide is always wrong,” regardless of a particular person’s personal beliefs or cultural background. Yet if God is not real, one’s moral feelings and thoughts about those issues are delusions. If you have abandoned your belief in God, have you abandoned your delusional belief in universal “right” and wrong?” If not, why not?

This a recent post on R&S. Wouldn't this person prefer to do nothing about global climate change and pollution in order to hasten the coming of the end time?

My sociology instructor wanted the women of the class to do an experiment. The instructor stated that men are more likely to interupt people in conversation than women. So she prompted us to have a conversation with a male that is close to us and try to count how many times he interupted you. I tried this experiment last night with my boyfriend and my boyfriend interupted me 6 different times during our 1 hr conversation. What do you ladies think about this experiment?

Why can't they just practise their own religion without trying to force everyone else to follow it in public places and institutions?
Is it because all religions are a form of social control?

But sometimes these beliefs that you carry from your childhood can be harmful. What is the best way to rid yourself of years & years of beliefs that are harmful? I've tried therapy but it's really hard to get past & dispel things taught by parents who did the best they could & then of course there's the religious belief's. This is a tough one.

i remember seeing exhibits at the last world's fair that was held in manhattan about the future. much to do was about women wearing disposable dresses (mod style of course, back then) made of paper. and a great number of themes were all about the upcoming "leisure society" that all americans would enjoy in years soon to come.

since then, since somewhere in the early '60s, the population of the planet has skyrocketed, mostly in third world countries. we lose jobs to those people by buying items that our companies contract out to make. back in the early '60s, ever since the end of WWII, there was a sense of pride in the goods that we in our own country made: we bought items that were advertised as "made in america," and citizens of our country bought houses at reasonable cost and raised their families in them even with mom staying home because by making and buying american, our economy soared.

so how is it that commercials show baby boomers up in the air in gliders, ...

This happened to me back during my school years a lot. I would walk into the lunch room, where you sometimes feel like all eyes are on you. Well, one table was always fully taken up with all of the cool kids. I would sit down at the table with the semi-cool kids which wasn't as packed. Anyway, sometimes when I sat down next to a kid. He'd be there for awhile and we even exchanged a couple of poltie words. However, a couple seconds later, he would get up and go sit next to someone else. A lot of people would see it to and I felt kind of embarrassed. No one was sitting by me, and I didn't really know how to react. Anyway, after that experience, I never went to lunch again and that was in the 7th grade. I am 22 years old now, but I feel kinda bad for my self. I should have had a more enjoyable lunch hour. Instead I spent my lunches at the library, pretending to read books. Now this behavior isn't bullying or anything, but I didn't know how to handle that subtle hurtfulness at school.
