Can anyone help me with pointers, etc. to help appreciate Buddhism, as a total novice ?

Lapsed Christian, I looked at Deism, Humanism & Pantheism. But I'm trying to find more personal/inner strength & I want my life back.

I'm not great at taking instructions - I never was in highschool, anyway. I prefer to study alone & learn my own wisdom, rather than have someone else preach their wisdom to me.

THX.

Please help, your advice could save lives. My wife has discovered a 'landing strip' in the woods near our home. At first I didn't think it was a big deal, but she insisted that she and my neighbor study it. She spends hours in the woods, working with my neighbor. When I ask her what she has discovered, she says that she and Karl (my neighbor) have made some great breakthroughs but doesn't want to tell me until she is sure. For several weeks now they have been in the woods, sometimes all night. Today, I couldn't take it anymore and I asked her what she has found. She reluctantly told me that the landing strip was for alien spaceships. She is going on a road trip with Karl to Las Vegas, where she says there is an expert. I asked Karl what he thought and he told me that indeed, he and my wife had 'discovered something huge' and they had to 'keep banging away at it'. I am scared that the aliens may not be well meaning and could hurt my wife and my dear friend Karl. What can I do?

Do you think it's odd that people call others 3x a day just to say they saw so & so and what they were doing and gossip? This one person is wonderful otherwise, but the neediness is getting on my nerves. I can't screen all my calls all the time. I just wondered if others have this problem and how you solved it.

or did people do that?.Did god make up some religion.for the cave men, then some religion for the american indians, and so forth, as we advanced along. then finnaly got it right with buddhism, I mean Islam, I m sorry, I mean Krisna, darn it ,I really mean Christianity?or could it be Eckankar, which is the one true path back to the god head. if you are an Eckist, then Eckankar is best for you,but its not for everyone.so why not just pick one from a hat.or depend on what your neighbors say is best, think it matters, I think It matters, but which one is best for george, this guy told me he wonted to know the best religious path I have found, since I have studyed so many. is it up to me, to tell him?I think all i can do is tell him what I have experianced spiritually. or not?

I think to each their own, but furries (hard to define in the limited space I have here. Some believe they have the soul of an animal, while others have an animal persona, or "fursona" which they communicate through by art, writing, and roleplaying, while some are just fans of anthropomorphisized animals- such as disney characters and mascots.) are a growing sub-culture who are starting to get mainstream attention. It's certainly difficult to spend time on the internet without running into furries (or at least furry artwork). Most furries are average people who have jobs or go to school, they include all nationalities, cultures, religions, sexualities, and opinions.

Some of them have sexual fetishes relating only to the furry fandom, which seem quite bizarre to outsiders, leading many people to swear them all off.

My question is simply out of pure curiosity to hear what other people think of the furry fandom. I'm not interested in judgement of their lifestyles at all! This is social

Do you have an ugly sweater/sweatshirt/etc?Is it so atrocious that very few people even know it exists, let alone be worn outside the house? But is it so warm/comfortable/familiar/ and so on that you just can't bear to part with it?I'm curious as to who is brave enough to admit they have an ugly sweater and where approximately they are from. For example, is the ugly sweater only found in New England, or can it be found in other parts of the world? What does it look like?Feel free to tell me of your ugly sweater!

If you are Muslim, Atheist, Jewish, Christian, or anything else...why do you believe what you believe? Does it always take faith to some extent? How could something come from nothing?

Important: This is philosophic question, not an attack on the motives of a Christian lifestyle.

I have noticed a strong Christian presence here, and I don’t have any Christian friends to ask myself. It is also a complex question, and I will be hugely grateful for a full answer.

I once read a book that argued the need for Christian God. It asserted that if there was no God judging us, and no resulting heavenly reward or hellish punishment, then there would be no need for us to have good morals.

This means that Christianity could be a useful tool for persuading people without morals that they should behave, and thus create a better society. But it also calls into question the true motives of good Christian behaviour.

i.e, when an atheist commits an anonymous charitable act that will bring him no future physical benefits (i.e no hope of reward, even looking good in front of people), he does so because he feels genuine empathy and gains pleasure from the pleasure of others.

Revelation 22:18-19
"I warn everyone who hears the prophetic words in this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book,
and if anyone takes away from the words in this prophetic book, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city described in this book".

It seems Martin Luther is condemned. When he translated the Bible into German, he threw out 7 old testament books: Wisdom, Sirach, Judith, Baruch, Tobit, 1 & 2 Maccabees. He also threw out James, Jude, 2 Peter, and Revelation in the New Testament. He put those NT books back a year later when his diciples complained. James completely contradicted his theology.
The 7 O.T. books are still missing from protestant Bibles.
Luther is in serious eternal trouble.
How many agree?

That to suggests a man or woman or both are out there physically somewhere. Dont you find it odd? If God has OUR eyes, how can he see us. If he has our lungs, how is he breathing in space? hmmmmm.
