Always offer handshakes. It's a necessary in business. Everybody is trying not to shake hands because of Donald Trump who stated that he hate shaking hands, yet you will see him shake hands with very important people.
If you want to come off and having good manners and showing respect to your client or friends, remember to offer them a good handshake. Just remember to wash your hand before and after.

I see handshakes are very alive and well in international business and social circles. Etiquette has in the past demanded that the lady offer her hand first when a male and female greet.
Sometimes I sense they are shy, or unaware of this , so I offer my hand to them. Haven't been refused yet, and I travel a lot.

Good form is for a man to wait for a woman to offer a handshake.

I think handshakes are still normal, particularly with older people.
On a side note, I have heard and read that a strong, firm handshake signifies confidence and sincerity. Me personally, I hate firm handshakes. I broke my hand several years ago and hate when someone grabs it and squeezes the hell out of it thinking they're impressing me.

I typically offer to shake hands, even with a women if it's on a more professional level. In casual social situations, I don't find that many women shake hands when they meet, they just smile and nod.

Men still do it. Some women do, but I do not like it and I do not do it unless the other person offers. Germs. And I am an old person. A lady doesn't have to.
