YES! I do and I hate it. I find the invention of cell phones has widely exacerbated the problem.
Most of these calls come from friends who are driving in their cars and are bored. They have nothing to say but dribble like what should I cook for dinner or I'm passing exit 18 right now and what are you doing? TMI!
I refuse to get a cell phone, I screen my calls all the time on my land land and call few back. It has gotten to such a point with a particular friend who calls me at work over the stupidest of things. I've asked her not to call me at work but she continues to do so, so over the past 3 months I've placed her on hold until she hangs up. Once a week, I call her and we have a substantive conversation.
What really galls me is friends that call with nothing to say but "I've got some minutes of free time left this month, so I decided to call you." My answer, is basically thanks for thinking about me but I'm in the middle of cleaning the litter box. Why don't you drop me a line in a letter. Can you afford the 39 cents?

No, personally I do not have this issue. I do not entertain gossip, I hate for people to gossip. I think you are either part of the solution or part of the problem. And if someone where to call with gossip, I would allow them to finish and then simply ask what are you going to do to help the situation? Then of course they would most probably be silent. Then I would tell them either part of the solution or part of the problem. If you are not going to do anything about it but gossip, you are part of the problem. And if the situation is so disturbing to you, you really should do something to assist in resolving the situation. God bless

YOU are enabling them. You set the rules.
I did solve most of my problems with the phone and chat by telling people I DID NOT like the telephone, and now I have difficulty in hearing on the phone (not true, a BIG LIE), but when they called (past tense) to do their chat, I did a lot of huh, huh? Repeat that, I can't hear you, speak up, SPEAK UP stop mumbling!! I told them I didn't have time for messaging often, but would ALWAYS answer their email, and I do. Works for me, but I'm a grumpy old man. haha
We create most of our own problems with other people by allowing them to get away with inappropriate things.

That would be my hubby. I think he doesn't realize how busy I am doing all the things that he should have done when I was at work during the day. He works nights and we have a son who is in school so I have our son at night plus a part time job and extra duties at the school I work at.

They call because they like you and need a friend. If its all business and seriousness, what kind of life would that be? Would you like to live with lots of friends and lots of fun or would you rather live with some friends and some fun?
Be nice, they call you because they need a friend and they find you comforting.

My ex friend used to do that. I would tell her i had to go but then she'd just blab on for another hour. She used to read stupid short comics to me when i was in a hurry and i told her i didn't want to hear them. So annoying.
