There has to be more awareness. Of people walking with blank eyes, blank hopes, regret and anger. What do you think we can do to help prevent the tragedy of mass killings? Don't you think that just being a little more ingaging, and interested, may help? What role does the war games on the computer contribute to the numbness of killing?

My mum really wants me to stay in the same city as I am in now and study law at University next year.

I get really good grades. My grades are good enough to get into and degree I wanted to.

I know people who have studied Law and they say it's a lot of writing and reading and sometime very boring.

I also don't want to live at home. I think I'm old enough to go flatting.

My mum went to a different University on the other end of the country.

Why can't she let me experience things for myself?

If Law isn't what I want to study how can I tell her this?

I know she'll be paying for some of my fees and etc, but why should I do something I have very little interest in?

Please help!

Did we intend to leave him out?
Did we make him feel unwanted?
Did we tell him he was dead in the first place?
Did we show him he couldn't be a better human being?
Did we show him this world does not want him or it is better without him?
Was it us who showed him this world is bitter?
Did we show him to act this way?

I am not patronizing. Do you think it was us, the "society," who pushed him to the edge, like other cases of mass murders in schools and colleges?

For example : you have a picture of yourself which you would be too embarassed to show anyone, but the person who see it exclaims how wonderful it is? Are people's image of themselves really different than what others see?

Does anyone feel that if everyone communicated with that kid the day of the shooting in a positive way, and complemented his shirt, or his shoes (even if it wasn't a nice pair of shoes or shirt) I just think instead of progressing we're taking 2 steps backwards...we're so focused on our own lives, we take liitle effort to acknowledge those around it. Just by reading the news, i can tell that kid went down the wrong path, because he was always alone....i dont think he chose to be alone, he was definitely depressed....to make someone recognise him, they labelled him the "question mark kid"....he wanted to be noticed, instead of being the quiet kid that no-body knows....so i guess he goes down a history, not in the least positive way

Are all of them just trolls trying to push buttons for attention? Is there any legitimate reason to be rude and verbally abusive to someone sincerely looking for help or advice? What do see as motivating such behavior?

(Disclaimer: I am not whining and complaining. I am looking for thoughtful insight into this issue)

Is is horrible to feel a sense of sadness for him as well. I KNOW what happened was horrible and noone deserves to have there life taken by anyone. But do you think that this gunman was tortured on the inside that made him want to do this, he also took his own life. I have been reading some articles about him online and many say he was "wierd, quiet," many kind of probably never made him feel welcomed. Also, he may of had a bad childhood. Who know....but I can't help but feel for sad for him as well as the others that have lost their lives. Something was lacking in him to make him feel this way, and I know there is no excuse for what he did.

Why does it seem like EVERYONE numbs themselves in some way?

Some do so through drinking, doing drugs, overeating, starving themselves, smoking, etc.

What other ways do people numb themselves?

And what makes one person choose drinking, and another choose overeating?

Please and thank you for your opinions =]

Whenever people try to get close to me, I push them away. I feel like I most push them away so they don't have a chance to push me away... how could such a maladaptive behavioral pattern develop? What could have possibly went wrong in my life to cause me to adopt this pattern?

I have been suffering with depression for a while now and am on anti-depressants that have been helping, to the point were my doctor thinks i am ready to have them reduced.

My problem is, for years i have been interested in reading about serial killers and finding out why they do the things they do. I am reading a book at the moment all about the American serial killer Richard Ramirez, and i have realised that i am getting too into this book, as i have found myself wishing i was one of his victims.

I now cant get the thought out my head and its scaring me. I am on a waiting list to see a counsellor but i have been told it wont be for at least another 4 months. I dont think i can go on like this and i cannot afford to see someone privately. HELP!
