A hole is drilled through the center of Earth and elevator car is installed inside?
The car departs from the surface (1km above sea level), and after quick initial acceleration continues to move towards the center of the earth at constant velocity 100 m/s.

Few seconds into constant velocity phase of the trip, when elevator just crosses sea level, a passneger drops elactic ball on the floor, which continues to bounce elastically from the floor with initial period 1s.

As the car approaches the center of the earth, period of bouncing gradually increases.

What is the period of bouncing half-way towards the center of earth?
[in assumption of uniformly dense planet, gravity at this point is g/2]

i saw a tv show the other day about this woman who had a robot copy of herself made, but when she finds out, she says that's impossible because it violates quantum mechanics, i thought that quantum mechanics dealt with extremely small particles! can someone explain this to me?

u dont have to answer all of these, but please explain how you figured it out.

1. At what angle should a slingshot be oriented for maximum altitude? for maximum horizontal range?

2. neglecting air resistance, if u throw a ball straight up with a speed of 20m/s, how fast will it be moving wen u catch it?

3. A projectile must be moving 8km/s in order for it to match the curve of the Earth. Question: why is it important that such a satellite be above the earth's atmosphere?

hi guys, if a cell phone battery with 957mAh and 3.7V.

957mAh is the battery capacity, isnt it?

So, is it mean that the power require to fully charge the battery is (957 X 3.7)/1000000 = 0.0035 kWh ? (assume the battery is completely empty)

If it is true (need 0.0035kWh power to charge), is that also mean this is the power needed with regardless of the charging time? for example, 2 same capacity batteries may need different time to fully charge the battery, but the power it require is the same, is it truth? Because I am not sure the relationship between charging and the capacity.

I have an extra credit problem for my physics class. The situation involves an electron sitting between two grounded infinite conducting planes. You need to find the E-field and the potential everywhere etc. It goes on to ask: "Why can't a similar construction be done for gravity? What would it mean to have a 'grounded' object in this case? What would you have to do to set the gravitational potential to zero in some region?" I am unable to make the connection. Help is appreciated.

A force of 17N is applied to a 6KG block which is at rest. Find:
A] Acceleration
B] Velocity
C] Distance After 9 seconds.

I solved A with the formula Force divided by Mass. [a=F/m]
17/6=2.83 m/s2

Solved B with the formula: Initial Velocity plus Acceleration times Time [Vf=Vi+a(t)]
0 + 2.83(9) = 25.47m/s

Now, for the distance (c) i have two formulas. the first one is:
Distance = Velocity * Time
and
Distance = Initial Velocity (time) + 1/2 a (time)2

The 5,000 kg final stage of spaceship ejects the 10,000 kg second stage. Before ejection, the two stages together travel with a velocity of 200 m/s.
