I've always wondered about this- I thought it would result in atomic fusion and a massive explosion, but I'm no real scientist. Still, you'd think that any two atoms co-existing at the same point would be pretty unhappy, even if they weren't a volatile material like Uranium 235 or whatever it is...

Most science-fiction examples of it show the two things merging together into a single object- is that likely? There's supposed to be a lot of space between atoms I suppose, but could there be that much leeway?

Any real input anyone has on this is greatly appreciated.

In an ideal situation, let's say the two glass surfaces are perfectly smooth and 100% flat, and we superpose one of them onto the other, there should be an uniform distributed air-layer between the two pieces of glasses even though it looks we put them in direct contact, so what is the thickness of this air strip? round 10nm? or more than 1 μm?
Any guess is welcomed :)

Am i going to survive that way. Can someone give me more ideas and add his thoughts on this?

The word used was evolution, maybe a misnomer because evolution is relative and would follow the Laws of relativity.
Darwin or his followers never mention that?
