Actually, we can.
If you put lead into an "atom smasher" you can synthesize gold.
The problem is that the process costs more than the price of gold.

sorry, but we can't produce copper or silver eather. all three are elements that have been created under the enormous temperatures and pressures on the inside of a star. all we do is mine and smelt the metals it their purer form
