Hi, I need help trying to figure out how to do some math problems. I'm totally confused.

3b - 5 - 2b = 5
b=

3(x - 4) = 15
x =

5n + 4 - 8n = - 5
n=

36 = 4 (q - 5 )
q =

Here are a few of the examples I have to do. Any step by step help would be appreciated. I have about 30 problems to do. Thanks. so much

My math teacher posed this as a sort of challenge for us. Can anyone help me with it?
Starting from the general equation ax2 + bx +c =0. Come up with the quadratic equation for this equation by completing the square.
Thanks so much for any help!

Can anyone help me? I have a maths textbook but like my classbook it never tells me the method to do the very hard questions. Like all the differentiation questions are f(x)= x^3(x^4+x^6), never a question or example that tells me how to differentiate for example the one below. Your help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

f(x) =(x+2)^3 how do you differentiate the equation when it is to ^3?

f(x) = x ^ (3/2) - 8 x ^ (-1/2)
Evaluate f(3) giving the answer in its simplest form with a rational denominator?

How do i evaluate (5 and 4/9) ^ (-1/2)
and find the value of x where (1+x) / x = sqrt 3 giving answer = a+b sqrt 3

Straight line l is perpendicular to line with equation 3x-y=4and passes through the point with co-ords (3,0)
How do i find l? When it is perpendicular do i just put 1 over?

Also how do i find the co-ordinates of the point where l interesect with line y= 2x-13?

Homework is to change this into a 1 step equation. (I can solve)

The base of an isocles triangle is 5 meters less than 4 times the length of a side. The perimeter is 67 meters. Find the length of each side and the base.

I really don't understand this stuff, so if someone could help that would be great.

I was asked to solve this pair of simultanious equations using the substitution method:

2x+y=9
x-2y=7

This is what i did:

Rearrange x-2y=7 to make y the subject:
-2y=7-x
Y=3.5-0.5x

Sub in y:
2x+3.5-0.5x=9
1.5x+3.5=9
1.5x=5.5
X=3 2/3

Sub in x:
3 2/3 -2y=7
-2y=3 1/3
y=1 5/6

Am I right?

OK....here goes the foolish question of the day. ;0)
82 divided by 8. Why do we not divide into the 8 and skip right to the 82? 8 can go into 8 right??? The answer does not come out right though it you divide into 8 first ( such as if the equation was 92 divided by 8 ....you would divide into the 9 first then bring down the 2 etc. to get the correct answer ). My son asked me this as a homework question. Help?! Thank you in advance for your assistance.
