4x + 1 = 21
subtract 1 from both sides
4x = 20
divide both sides by 4
x = 5
3x - 3 = 18

Always remember, what you do to the left side you must also do to the right side
1. 4x +1 = 21
4x +1 -1 = 21 - 1
4x = 20
4x /4 = 20/4
x = 5
2. 3x - 3 = 18
3x - 3 +3 = 18+3
3x = 21
3x / 3 = 21 / 3
x = 7

You can do the same thing to both sides of an equation and not change its value.
4X + 1 = 21. Subtract 1 from both sides and you have:
4X = 20. Divide both sides by 4 and 1X =5
Check into original equation. 4(5) + 1 = 21
21 = 21
3X -3 = 21 Adding 3 to both sides. 1 unknown please!
3X = 21
X = 7 Check: 3(7) - 3 = 21 -3 = 18

1) 4x + 1 = 21
-1 = -1
4x = 20
4x/4 = 20 / 4
x = 5
2) 3x - 3 = 18
+3 = +3
3x = 21
3x/3 = 21/3
x= 7
Hope this helps

4x +1=21 you hv 2 tk the 1 to other side
4x=21-1
4x=20 have to divide on 4 to get rid of the" 4"
4x/4=20/4
x=5
4x5=1=21 prove
sec1 is
...3x -3=18
3x=18+3
3x=21
3x/3=21/3
x=7
prov 3*7*-3=18

for both of these you want to icolate the variable which is in this case "x". that means you nees to get the "x" on one side of the = and the other numbers on the other. to do this you subtract or add the other number on the same side as the x so that it becomes a 0 ( #1 is a 1 so u would subtract the 1 to make a 0) whatever you do to one side you need to do to the other so you would then subtract 1 from 21. now you have 4x=20now to isolate the "x" you need to devide the 4 so the "x" is alone...once again hat you do to one side you do to the other 20 devided by 4 is 5. so as you see x=5. to check it put 5 in the place of the x and solve it ( 4x5 + 1= 21)

You're trying to isolate X, so you want to get rid of everything else.
4x+1=21
-1 -1 [Here, you subtract 1 as your first step.]
4x/4 = 20/4 [Next, you're going to divide each side by four in order to isolate the variable.]
x= 5
3x-3=18
+3 +3 [Add 3 to both sides]
3x=21 [This is what you're left with after you have added 3 to both sides.]
3x/3=21/3 [Divide by three on both sides in order to get the value of X]
X= 7
Hope that helped. =]

Be sure you do the same thing to both sides of the equation:
4x+1=21
4x+1-1=21-1
4x=20
4x/4=20/4
x=5
3x-3=18
3x-3+3=18+3
3x=21
3x/3=21/3
x=7
Hope that helps!

4x + 1 = 21
your task is to find a number for x o that if you replace the x with that number the result is 21.
4x + 1
if x is 5 you have 4 times 5 plus 1 is 21
so x = 5 is the solution
=====
solving the fool-proof way :
4x + 1 = 21
4x = 21 - 1
4x = 20
x = 20/4 = 5 so x = 5.

For the first problem, subtract 1 from both sides: 4x = 20.
Then divide both sides by 4 to get the x by itself: x = 5.
For the second, add 3 to both sides: 3x = 21.
Then divide both sides by 3 to get the x by itself: x = 7.
