Correct operational order is as follows:

x(x-5x)
x(-4x)
-4x^2

Expansion:
x^2 - 5x^2

Simplification
-4x^2

You just multiply each of those terms by x...

x*x=x^2
x*(-5x)=-5x^2

So this is x^2-5x^2=-4x^2
We could also look at it as x(-4x) by simplifying in first, but this gives the same answer of -4x^2.
