Your teacher allows the class to have a pizza party. The pizza parlor is running a special: The first pizza in an order costs $15.99, the second (in the same order) costs half the price of the first, the third pizza costs half the price of the second, the fourth cost half the price of the third, and so on. If your class can only buy whole pizzas and has exactly $31.74 to spend (excluding tax and tip), what is the greatest number of pizzas that the class can purchase? Explain your reasoning.

The compliment of a graph G is a having the same vertex set as G but consisting of exactly those edges that are not edges of G. ( If AB is an edge of G, then it is not an edge in the compliment and vice versa. Let N denotes the number of vertices in G.
a) Suppose N is even (N is greater than or equal to 4) and G has an Euler Circuit. Explain why the compliment of G can not have an Euler circuit.
b) Suppose N is odd (N is greater than or equal to 5) and has an Euler circuit. Explain why the compliment of G may or may not have not have a Euler circuit.

Here is a picture of the puzzle
http://i22.tinypic.com/347v2wk.gif

Can anyone tell me the secret to cracking open this puzzle? It is not like most other kakuro puzzles, which can be solved without guessing or trial and error? Is there some special strategy to solving this without trial and error or guessing?

NOTE that I am not interested in the final solution. I could get that if I want to. What I want is tips and strategies.
Thank you.
