Break it down
So
For example -
18 - 2 x 3 x 3
120 - 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5
56 - 2 x 2 x 2 x 7
390 - 2 × 3 × 5 × 13
144 - 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3
153 - 3 × 3 × 17
Break it down to it's prime numbers

To write the prime factorization, you need to understand the concept of prime numbers. A prime number is a number that is only divisible by itself and one. And, well factorization just means to factor the number into all the prime numbers, that when multiplied together, would equal the number given.
So, for first one, you would factor 18 into the smallest numbers that you can. first 3*6, then further into 3*3*2. To write in the correct form you would put 2*3^2. The smallest prime number first with each reoccurring factor in an exponential form.
1. 2*3^2
2. 2^3*3*5
3. 2^3*7
4.2*5*7^2
5. 2^4*3^2
6.3^2*17

Rahl13_1, I like that you explained the prime number concept in a way to show how the factorization needs to be done. Wish I had known about yahoo! answers when I was dying through college algebra. Great answer!
