Multiply through the whole equation by 1/2 or .5 (which is the same thing as 1/2)

2x + 2.5

1/2(4x+5)

distribute the 1/2

4x(1/2) + 5(1/2)

multiply out

4x/2 +5/2

simplify the 4x/2

2x + 5/2

1/2 * 4x + 5* 1/2
=2x +2.5

(1/2)*4 then (1/2)*5
=2 =2.5
2+2.5
=4.5

first you would change 1/2 to .5
its called the distrbutive property

.5x4x=2x
.5x5=2.5
2x+2.5=5
-2.5 -2.5
2x=2.5
x=1.25
