I find it surprising that those who ask questions seldom vote on the answers received. Is this not rather rude? What do you think?

x=1+t, y=2t, z=4-3t

Ok I can say t = 1 - x
and plug it in for y = 2t
y = 2(1-x) = 2 - 2x

But I didn't include z so how can this be a line... I'm so confused I really need help.

For instance, I type the following into my calculator:

(1/3)^8

It then spits back at me a long number to a power of ten:

1.524157903 E -4

I would like to view this number as a fraction, but selecting it as a fraction from the MATH menu does not work. It also does not help to change the mode of the calculator.

I know that the number CAN be written as a fraction (1/6561). I just need to know how to arrive at that.

You can find mathematical puzzles and teasers like this one at http://www.mindchallenger.com The answers are there and new puzzles are added at the beginning of each month.

I would like to see the method you use to solve this and determine the numbers for each letter.

So I'm normally pretty decent at these but I can't seem to get this one, I think it's because the denominators are equal but anywho, can anyone help me out with this question:

[Intg from 5 to 12] (9x)/(x^(2)+4x+4)
Determine the numerical values of the coefficients, A and B, where B is less than or equal to A in
A/denominator + B/denominator
A=? B=?

I broke it up into A/x+2 and B/x+2 But that gives the equation of 9x=A(x+2)B(x+2) so I don't really know where to go from here...Do I have to do anything with the 5 and 12? Eeek, help! Thanks y'all!

In major league baseball, a fastball travels the distance (60 ft 6 in) from the pitcher to the catcher in 0.41 s. On average, a batter connects with the ball 0.28 s after the start of the swing. Using these figures, estimate how long the ball is in range to be hit by the batter. In other words, by how much time can the batter be off in the start of the swing and still hit the ball?
